Guest guest
Dear Robert, Yes, you are right about buying gems from reputable Vedic oriented gemstone dealers. Yet this is not a guarantee that the stone will be "natural", that is unaltered by heat, radiation, dye treatment etc. As I mentioned in an earlier post, even GIA certified stones that have been scrutinized in the best gem lab in the world cannot be absolutley guaranteed to not have been heat treated. All they are certifing is that there no DETECTABLE evidence of treatment. I leave it to the individual to decide how this impacts the desirability or metaphysical value of a particular gemstone. AS far as buying gemstones, "at the source" is concerned, this is mostly a marketing phrase meant to give legitimacy. Unless the dealer dug the stone up from the ground themselves how can there be a guarantee that the stone has not been treated? And for the most part it is not possible to do that. Gemstone mine owners just don't allow the public or their customers to go picking through their claim. Ater mine owners extract the rough stones, which in the case of sapphire is usually from alluvial gravels, the natural rough gem crystals are burned, as this makes them more marketable. If someone is VERY well connected (Richard Brown may be, he lives in Thailand) they are able to negotiate a purchase before the rough is burned. This the exeption not the rule. Regarding citrine, yellow beryl, and topaz... heat and or/irradiation treatment of these stones is assumed to have occured in trade circles, as it is very, very common. It is not just an opinion. I am always surprised when I see astrology web sites advertising gem therapy using stones like citrine and tanzanite that are invariably burned to drastiacally alter their color. Hence the need for the good work of individuals like Richard Brown who seek to bring legitimacy and knowledge to a field where there is little of either. I personally advocate prayer/mantra, in traditional sanskrit metre/pronunciation as far as one is able, or in english, or in whatever one's native language, if one is unhappy with what life has given and desires a change. God is there in our heart and hears every beat of our heart and every breath. Will He not hear our prayer also? My experience is that this is the personal way in which anyone can relate to divinity. Gemstone therapy is indirect. It seems distant and impersonal to me to just put a stone of whatever quality on the finger and expect a truly favorable result in life. Guest guest
Dear Sarva, I have a different take to the gem issue. If amathyst is heated to make Citrine then let it be. What we should look into is the final formation. It does not matter what it was before. for example, a diamond is a diamond and we don't call it carbon, Although we know that in the past carbon was the form the diamond had. Physically also you can not light fire to the diamond and expect heat to radiate through. In the final form the characteristics could be totally different. like water compared to hydrogen and the Oxygen. So, if in the final form amythist is yellow gold by loosing its purple color during the process, then it should be treated as the gem for jupiter -Pranav ________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape Webmail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com/
Guest guest
I do understand your sentiments Pursottam. But, as in all similar posts, the inference is that you and other Krishna devotees (alone) are engaged in worship of the "Divine"...this is not only untrue, but somewhat arrogant don't you think. It might be good to keep in mind that most everyone on this list is engaged in "religious service"...most recognise the absolute, never changing inner "Self" (Krishna/Christ/Buddha...whatever) to be their true self and are acutely aware of the impermanence of this material world/gross body. Most on this list spend a good portion of their day engaged in meditation. Most astrologers (on this list) are "doing their duty" as laid down by Krishna himself and are (compassionately) offering astrological advice and Yes! remedies (when necessary) to ease the suffering of their fellow men. This, to my mind, is righteous service/action and certainly in accord with the teachings of Krishna. I personally have a copy of the Gita close at hand always (it's the joy of my soul)...a great comfort that guides me gently back to meditation when I find myself getting too caught up in outer activity...it's there always to remind me of my Self! Regards Wendy Pursottam [pursottam_dabasia] Tuesday, February 13, 2001 3:12 AM gjlist RE: [gjlist] more gem stuff Om Krishnaaya Namah Hi Wendy, > things associated with the malefic planet. I want to make it clear that > wearing a gem or repeating the planetary mantra is NOT pacifying > the malefic > planet...it is strengthening it...this is not advised! While I agree that gems don't pacify malefics, I disagree with you about mantras. Mantras are a method of worship. The words "Namahpranamamyaham" etc. so common in planetary mantras (pauranic and tantrik) all roughly translate to "I offer my respectful obesances to..." The Grahas are demigods. As Sri Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita, demigod worshippers will get materialistic benefits very quickly. Parashara also says that if a Graha Devata is worshipped, it won't give bad effects. Sri Brahmaji has given the Grahas a boon, that they may bestow good effects on their worshippers. So I disagree with your statement that mantras won't pacify planets. Personally I haven't experimented with the Graha mantras for Graha Shanti. I feel that by worshipping my Lord, Sri Krishna, in various ways, I get the goods directly from the manufacturer :-) And of course that way, I don't lose my efforts at death. If I have to come back next time, my work is saved (as promised in the Gita). Bye-Bye, Pursottam gjlist-
