Om Gam Ganapataye Namo Namah!!

Om Amrtesvaryai Namah!!

Namaste Wong Kai Cheong and other list members!!

Thank-you very much for your very clear exposition, so easy to

follow, and very much as we had earlier been discussing... a while

ago...last week or so...i had brought forward for people's

consideration a statement from Narasimha Rao of the SJVC....i thought

it was very interesting at the time, and it had to do with determining

the Guru's lagna, through the Navamsha and and the D24 chart, although

i can, when looking at the D20 chart, see what you mean, and how

useful it, too, is for these purposes, being as in my case, they are

entirely confluent in meaning...pointing as i had earlier said to my

Guru, Ammachi.....in every way i can see....signed, sealed, and

delivered...

This was why i brought it up on the list...i wanted to stimulate

some discussion in this area (as it has!!), and i wanted to give

people the opportunity to orient THEMSELVES in this way....they could

compare their charts with that of their Guru....(if they have one)

For example in my case that atmakaraka indication of Ishtadevata

in the Navamsha happens to point out Taurus (the 12th from the

Atmakaraka Bhava in navamsha)...no planet there, but Venus is the

Ruler...and thus the Ishta Devata for me...However my Lagna is there,

and so is Amma's in Her Navamsha...as well as Her Natal Moon in the

Rasi...in Taurus in my 5th Bhava of Mantra initiations and spiritual

teachings, and so on.....thus pointing in my devotee's mind to the

Divine Mother Who dwells within me as Me....and who is externally for

me, incarnated in the form of Amma...Amma says: "i am the You that is

in you, and you are the Me that is in me..." (forgive me for raving on

about Her...She's my "beloved"....not just my Guru...)

we are supposed to see that Guru is God...(in fact we are to see

that EVERYONE is God...even our "enemies", but we start first with

Guru, if we can find such a One, at Whose Feet, we can really take

refuge). If one has such a real Guru this is a very good view, however

with charlatans (and how are we simple beginners to know the

difference you ask?) this could result in cults and so on....so Most

reputable Gurus won't self-promote in this way...they will humbly go

about relieving people's pain, while making no claims...leaving the

idiots like me to rave about them, (which of course only lowers their

value in the common understanding....but...Oh Well...that's just the

way it is...) The devotees on the other hand, few though they may be,

hear what i am saying...and they want to find the "source" of this

sweetness...the sugar mountain, instead of just the one grain that i'm

trying to brag about....(Sri Ramakrsna's story about the ant and the

mountain of sugar is my model here..."Next time i'm going to bring

home the whole Mountain!!!"

As i understand it in Vedic Culture, one is expected to understand

it when they say: If God loves you and the Guru is mad at you, you are

in BIG trouble, whereas if God is mad at you and the Guru is pleased,

then everything is FINE....indicating that in a way the Guru is in

fact HIGHER than God in the eyes of the Devotee....as the Guru is the

One Who has kindly taken birth to help uplift the devotee, and bring

Her/Him into the Divine Presence....promising to come back as many

times as it takes to bring us slow learners into the light....

Also as i understand it, the best protection in the sadhana of

Jyotish is the Ishta Devata, so it is very important to learn as much

as we can about this....what is our natural inclination...our family

deity, our own Beloved Deity, our "lineage"....this will help us as

Jyotishis in training, and as practitioners of the ancient

Jyotirvidya....again it would work here, that if your Guru (or Ishta

Devata) were pleased with you, then those Grahas would have a

different effect upon you than if you had displeased Her....and if

displeased, you could be sure to be learning some more "interesting"

lessons thru the kind influence of the gentle "seizers"...those

Grahas, Who in reality are only going about the Divine Mother's

work...bringing us the teachings we need at the right time...

Thus it is easy to see why a Jyotishi would cultivate the practise

of getting close to his/her Beloved Deity/Guru....thru appropriate

sadhana, with the pure innocent longing of a little child for his

Mother.....

Thus for me to have IshtaDevata and Guru coincide in one cute

little South Indian Ammachi, is no problem at all....in fact makes it

a lot simpler...(sorry if i revolt any Guru haters in the

audience...Amma has just filled me with so much love for Her that i

can tend to rave a bit....don't intend to offend or hurt any one's

feelings...i can get into other people's beloved Gurus too!!)

Back to the original posting by Narasimha Rao, which had given some

slightly different information than yours...and i will once again post

it here (so that you lazies don't have to go looking for it!!!):

Below i have pasted part of the discussion as brought forward by

Narasimha Rao of that site:

"Here are my 2 cents on this matter. I may be corrected by elders

and gurus if I am wrong. The 9th house shows fortune. When we are

dealing with knowledge, the 9th house shows the guidance we receive in

our pursuit of knowledge. So, that is what the 9th house in D-24

shows.

Planets represent human beings. Just as the lord of GL is the

final bringer of power as I said in an example today, the lord of 9th

is the final bringer of guidance. So the 9th lord shows one's guru.

Apart from the 9th lord, if a planet has a particularly

strong argala (intervention) or rasi aspect on 9th, then it can also

show one's guru. Basically, the planets with argalas on 9th show

people who intervene in the guidance one receives. Planets aspecting

9th show people who influence the guidance one receives. The 9th lord

is the main person in charge of one's guidance."

Thus we have it again from the honorable Mr Narasimha Rao of the

SJVC....perhaps both the D20 and D24 are useful therefore in these

matters...especially if confluence obtains....

In the Divine Mother's

Love, and in Her Service,

i humbly salute You,

Her own Child,

bowing humbly again

and again,

as ever,

Your Own Self,

visvanathan

Om Amrtesvaryai Namah!!!
