Gurus and where to find them

Dear Visvanathan

It is my understanding that the 9th house, 9th lord, and Jupiter are the

principal factors pertaining to one's personal Guru (in the natal chart).

The 5th house of "spiritual practices, mantras, etc" shows the type of

spiritual practice one will adopt, and also the principle deity that one

will worship.

For instance, in "Doctrines of Suka Nadi-retold" by R. Santhanam, it is

stated that: "One will meditate with Panchakshara Mantra and attain favours

from Lord Siva if the 5th lord occupies Leo and is aspected by the Sun". In

other words one will meditate according to the Shaivite tradition. This is a

common aspect among members of the TM movement.

However the personal Guru (himself) I believe is seen from the 9th house,

it's lord, and karaka.

I say this because obviously I have the aspect (of 5th lord) referred to

above, and during my Saturn mahadasa (SA aspects 5th lord, whilst SA's

dispositor is in the 9th) I was totally devoted to my Guru. However since

coming into Mercury mahadasa (ME exalted in 9th) I find myself somewhat

"fickle" when it comes to Guru (chopping and changing my mind frequently)

although I still maintain a similar meditation practice.

BTW it is also my understanding that the 3rd house shows "Initiatory

instruction"

Wendy

Dear Wendy, I thought it was the 12th from the karakamsa which revealed one's

preference in personal dieties.Especially the planets occupying, ruling and

aspecting it in the Navamsa. In my own case,I have mercury conjunct jupiter in

leo which is 12 from the karakamsa aspected by the moon.Hence Ganesh and

Shiva are two of my favorites, but Vishnu and Krishna must get their due also.

Dear Dave,

Yes you're right! One can see/confirm a great deal by considering the

relevant karakamsa placements...for instance 4th from karakamsa will depict

the kind of house one will build/live in etc. But it's a HUGE mistake (I

believe) to ignore the Rasi in favour of these other charts.

The divisional/special charts have great value in unveiling the subtleties

of the Rasi, but there is always the danger of ignoring the Rasi in favour

of these other charts. They are COMPLEMENTARY to the Rasi...they should not

supersede it in importance.

Everyone is aware of the importance of AtmaKaraka but few give it a passing

glance when delineating the Natal Chart. Is it's position in Navamsha more

important than it's position in Rasi...I don't think so! The same

observations made from karakamsa should also be judged from AtmaKaraka in

Rasi.

Wendy

Hare Rama Krishna

Dear list members

Namaste

My name is Wong Kai Cheong. I am a beginner in Vedic astrology and was very

fortunate to be accepted by my guru, Gauranga Das at SJVC to study Jyotish

recently. Currently learning the basics. Regarding the above topic, this is

what I have to share after going through the files.

1. 12th from the Atmakaraka in D-9 (Navamsa) shows the Ishta devata. We look

for :

a. planets in the 12th in Atmakaraka

b. if no planets than Rasi Dristi

c. if no planets in Rasi Dristi then the Bhavapati will signify the

Ishta Devata.

2. D-20 will shows the guru and specific forms of deity.

a. 2nd house in D-20 shows the family deity

b. 5th house shows the Bhakti Marga

c. 9th house reveals the guru.
