In 1981 a TV channel in Mexico City requested from me a project relating weekly programes showing the links between vedic astrology to human activity. I gave them a list for 52 series by following the abc. Linking vedic astrology to agriculture, architecture, archeology, astronomy, biographies, computers, demigods, medicine, numerology, palmistry, tarot, vocations, vedas etc. They had done some good programes in the past but with western astrology & they were very interested in vedic. For example, in about 1979-80 they showed some programes linking some pyramides to the sunrise at the spring equinox and giving a historical background. They sent a team, sound & film, to film early in the morning. Mexicans loved it. Unfortunately due to personal committments i could not wait for the answer & i had to go back to Europe before they gave me the answer. I think that we as vedic astrologers have a lot of responsabilities towards humanity & i am sure that of 300 astrologers on this list we have 300 different interests, ideas or projects. Vedic astrology is practically new in the west & we are just starting to get together. We may have different opinions but instead of being hostil we should be more constructive & co-operative. Yes, we should talk when someone is out of order but we should be open minded without prejudices or bias opinions. We have many nationalities on the list & what is natural for some it may be repulsive to others but we are suppose to draw a conclusion. Nietzche the German philosopher said that the concept of good and bad is so diverse that it can change from country to country or from city to city or even from person to person. If we receive hostility to our postings, lets face the music & if we find that we are out of order we should be grateful that someone told us so. I was trained as an architec & learned to co-operate with everyone around me, otherwise we cannot perform any project. I am open to many aspects of knowledge & the Sarasvati civilization is very interesting to me. We know a lot about Egypt mainly because the Freemasons have been sponsoring the research to satisfy their philosophical interest related to their schools of thought. We are interested in the source of vedic astrology and the Sarasvati Empire can satisfy that interest. Unfortunately, archeologists are not astrologers and therefore can not give us a proper view of their findings. The transit of Pluto in Scorpio since 1993 has been giving a new light to our past and ancestors when new archeological evidence is changing our view of history. I am sure that in the next 5 years, before Pluto goes into Sagittarius, we are going to have a more clear idea of the Sarasvati Empire. We know from the Vedas that Maharaja Pariksit met Kali at the beginning of Kali yuga some 5000 years ago, and since then humanity went into decline (comparing with previous ages). At that time vedic astrology was in practice and the Sarasvati Empire was alive. The more we know about that Empire, the more we will understand vedic astrology. You mention the Sarasvati Port, could you please tell me where is it? I am sure that archeologists are finding a lot of artifacts, lets wait & see. We know that people from Vrindavan, India used to worship Indra (Uranus) around 3227 BC and Surya (the Sun), so archeological evidence should be found. Dear List Members, Hoping not to irritate Raghu Das, I am writing this during a lull period on the list. I am NOT trying to preach, but only giving ideas to ponder over. To start with, jyothish is a means of understanding ourselves and our connection with our surroundings. In this sense the history of mankind is part of jyothish. But please let me digress for a moment. It is not good to be directed by ruts. We are children of a GREAT INVENTOR (Or INVENTRESS, as I see HER) and He or She expects us, the children, to be dscoverers and inventors. "Know thy self!" said Sri Krishna. Kings established kingdoms, merchants establish little firms, some establish factories. But ALL hope their children will EXPAND and IMPROVE what they have grounded! Is the Creator different? In the Bible there is the story of the merchant, his servants and the talents. The two servants who invested and gained were rewarded, but the last, who buried the talent, never tried to make more of it, went unrewarded! We have a lot of "talents" given to us in the vedic literature. We must use these talents, not "bury" them! As a child of 5 years I had a glorious vision of God and He said to me: DO NOT FOLLOW TRADITION BUT SEEK ME WITH YOUR BRAINS! It was couched in words that a child could follow, BUT it was - and is - a tremendous burden! At that time it filled me with fear, I had to refuse to accept the religious injunctions of my parents, refuse to take part in rituals ..... I was a rebel, a black sheep, afraid of punishment, but with a dedicated purpose, to seek my beloved friend God as Ganesha, whom I had daily played with but who had so abruptly vanished from my sight, on that great but terrible morning as I had the vision! I have often pleaded for a new approach to the vedic literature. To realize that we have received only a fraction of that which was written or composed. Thousands of works mentioned in the fragmentary lists of the libraries of Nalanda and Taxila have not been found as yet. Most of the puranas we have are very much shorter than than the lengths given in the lists. What we have, is only the peak of the iceberg, what we do not have lies in oblivion. Besides that, we may have a bit of junk as well! Not having enough cross-references, we may have books that were condemned by the elite of those days! In fact, I am sure of this: we are also being tested for our discernment! "Ancient -holy -true" is NOT VIVEKA! God has made us Homo Sapiens Sapiens, so that we recognize Him through our intellect, NOT by hearsay, not by abject trust in the words of any guru, but by observation and understanding of the world. Why do I believe in the Great Mother? As a scientist and engineer I can say this: SHE is the greatest architect, engineer, scientist and artist I know! A tiny seed grows to become a tree and bears delicious fruit. Who, given a cubic foot of earth, a heater, a lamp and air can produce one plant... one blade of grass? We have huge chemical "plants". A good name for the structure: every little plant does what these man-made plants do - convert substances! Every bone and muscle in a body is perfectly shaped for its function, no camera is better than the eye, no hi-fi system is so good as the ear! Was all this "accidental" evolution? Have a look at the angels and monsters in the microscopic world - what beauty, what terror! It is time we started reading the ancient texts and information with open eyes and open mind! There are many things that sound absurd, do not fit "normal thinking". But such passages, stories, are hidden information about scientific truths. A classic case is the story of Druva. There might have been a king of that name, but the puranic story tells us about the origin of the solar system. In that story Druva means "stability", not a person. We must also forget the pseudo-traditional view of holding the present India as the "Home of Vedic Knowledge"! Bharathavarsha was not India, but the centre of the Eurasian continent, with India as the border and last repository of the vedic culture. After the Atlantian period the vedic culture was re-founded in Great Britain, Bretagne, Brittany, Vrithraragna ..... moved to the Caspian (Kasyapan) Sea. Hastinapura was Hastusa near Ankara, whose airport is still kalled "Yesilkoy" = Yasilikaya. A princess of this kingdom wrote a letter, signing it with the name Hastinavathi! Kurukshetra was in Iran, the land of Cyrus, correctly pronounced "Kurus". The Yadavas killed themselves by fighting with reeds. The most suitable place for such reeds is the Tigris/Euphrates estuary, famous for its reeds, which were even used for building ships, as Thor Heyerdahl showed! All I can say is this: Do not stagnate and look backwards in nostalgy, BUT go forwards, using the past as a springboard or capital for a new enterprise! Otherwise, all the work of the great Rishis will be in vain: they taught, so that the disciples would learn more, advance in knowledge and faith, NOT stagnate and go backwards! I know that I hurt the feelings of those who follow strict teachings, sampradays. But all these sampradayas were broken at some time in the past, re-constructed later. In the remote past science and religion were ONE, but a split occurred and the main effort was to strengthen religion. Science was also kept hiddeen to avoid misuse and catastrophes as happened in Atlantis. Today we have to find the balance: by realizing that science is understanding God and his wishes. We must re-establish the Mother Earth as a "holy" creation of God, not attribute holiness to only certain patrs. There are certainly "energy centres", but these are not confined to any country. Glastonbury in England is as holy as Benares (Varanasi) in India! Namaste Mani
