Guest guest
Om Namah Sivaya!!! Namaste Mani and others on the list!! When reading your posting re Lincoln's TOB and your comments about the time zone being 0:00, i remembered that GJ had Paramahansa Yoganandaji's TOB with a time zone of 0:00 too, which results in a different chart from one in which you just plug in the local mean time and the longitude and latitude...i have also noticed that several authors have used different time zones for him....When you don't use GJ's time zone, but just the time and physical coordinates, you wind up with a chart similar to the one David Frawley has in his Astrology of the Seers and too, the chart exhibited by Hart de Fouw and Robert Svoboda in their Light on Life...Since both of these pretty reliable books (as far as i can tell!!!) have the same resulting chart, and Goravani's is different...because of the time zone being 0:00, i believe, that possibly when the GJ list of people was compiled, someone forgot to enter the right time Zone or something like that.... So perhaps the same is holding for Abraham Lincoln...They didn't use British time back then, because it just wouldn't have made sense...it wouldn't fit in with the day/night scheme of things....So respectfully i submit that possibly that time zone of 0:00 in the GJ is a mistake of programming...a typo....just as i believe the timezone for Paramahansa Yoganandaji is a typo...if you put in the time given and the longitude/latitude co-ordinates, you'll get a time zone of 5:35 for Paramahansaji, very similar to that of Ramakrsna Paramahansadevaji, and they were born i believe in the same time zone..or very similar....any thoughts about this????? i have brought this up at one time with dasji, but there was no response...(and what could he do anyways?...the program is on the cdrom...unchangeable..)..but in all common sense, India will not be on the same time zone as Greenwich, England!!!! In the Divine Mother's Love and in Her Service, i am yours visvanathan Om Amrtesvaryai Namah!!!!

There are two possibilities: 1. as you say, a typing error, or 2. the TOB is given in GMT instead of LT. In that case the Zone has to be zero! This was not uncommon, because every place did not really use the actual local time by exact fractional longitude. It was more Local Standard Time, valid for a full degree of longitude running through a (small) district. The actual local time could well be 10 minutes either side. To compute a correct chart the LST had to be converted to GMT. This also facilitates entering data in the programme. In India, the provinces directly under British administration were mainly in the eastern half of the country. Madras and Calcutta were two main centres, Delhi and Bombay were not. So the British first established Madras time, GMT plus 5h 21m. Bengal used Calcutta Time, which is given as GMT plus 5h 53 m. I doubt this: think it should be 5h 31m. My father told me that Calcutta Time was exactly 30 minutes ahead. This makes sense. The idea of using a standard time arose with the railroad and the process of making time-tables was otherwise hell! But to give timings for a train crossing the Bengal border I think an exact 30 minute difference would have been preferred to 32 minutes. With the increase of world communication by radio it was all standardized to Nagpur Time, exactly 5h 30m east of GMT. BTW I could not find Yogananda´s or Vivekananda`s birth data in GJ. Where are they? regards Mani
