More revelations of Bhakta das case. An Eyewitness Account

By S.P. Radhesh

I once again appeal to all devotees unite worldwide and protest against this

injustice to your brothers! Consider this seriously please. At the end of this

article you will find all contact information.

I had extensive contact with Maria Schmidova and her daughter Tulasi from July

2000. Prior to that I had occasionally met them in October ‘99 at Alarnath

during a Sankirtan festival with the disciples of Paramadvaiti Maharaj.

My first impression of both mother and daughter was that they looked psychotic,

overly nervous and aggressive. After few months I heard that Ashok Sahoo was

sentimentally engaged with Maria. Shortly thereafter I met Ashok and Maria at

the Hotel Basu in Puri. They told me they were planning to marry, go to Austria

and settle there.

Things had to go differently for some reasons of the Lord that we don’t know. In

July the local newspaper reported: “40 people have abused a 6 year-old foreign

girl in Balia Panda, Puri”, “Ashok Sahoo is absconding”. I was utterly shocked.

Since I knew personally Ashok, the whole story seemed to me totally absurd.

When I again met Maria (by the inscrutable arrangement of the Lord) the alleged

case of gangrape to her daughter, the 6 year-old Tulasi, was in all the local

newspapers, both in English and Oriya. In the end of August a Director of the

Crime Branch told me to act as a translator for Maria and Tulasi when they made

a 164 statement before the Puri Magistrate. Some malicious people thought that

through my translation I was helping Maria to send everybody else to jail.

Nothing can be farther from the truth. First of all I was forced to do this duty

because Maria had threatened to put me in the case if I did not do what she

wanted. Secondly, but not less important, the investigators of the Crime Branch

of Cuttack had personally requested me to cooperate with them in this case.

Obviously I could not refuse. So I went to the court, but my translation was

clearly coerced and therefore inaccurate. I don’t mean to say that all of a

sudden I don’t know German, but you can imagine the situation. By the time

mother and daughter made their statements before the magistrate three people

(Ashok Sahoo, Mandali Bhadra, Bhakta das) had already been arrested. During the

statement Maria Schmidova called the lady magistrate corrupt and paid by the

accused. This was spoken in German and not translated by me to the magistrate

because I was in fear of Maria. That day I was not the only translator.

Sarasvati dasi, a Swiss lady who was already acquainted with Maria, was

assisting me in the translation work. Sarasvati was completely bewildered when

she heard Maria blaming the magistrate, but she was also in great fear of Maria

and did not speak.

I tried to convince the police authorities that the mental state of Maria and

Tulasi are worthy of a serious psychiatric investigation. The time that I spent

with her, due to my knowing her language (German) assures me that both this

woman and her daughter had been moved by irrational feelings, to say the least.

Many of their activities cannot be considered normal from the point of view of a

sane person. This has been witnessed by hundreds of people in Puri during the

time of her staying here. However the official investigators never considered

for a moment to properly search for the truth. The conspiracy of the madwoman

against four innocent people is a very sad page in the history of India, one of

those pages that should have never been written.

Here is the contact information for you to write your protests to in India and

in the USA.
