Guest guest
Nicholas, I feel rather strongly about Sagittarius rising. The entire Ketu period ran during the hey day of the Hare Krishna movement. Capricorn rising would give Ketu in the eighth, and I just couldn't see Shrila Prabhupada having success like that during the dasha of a planet in the eighth. Remember that, in India, where it counts and where 20% of the worlds population was living, he became quite famous, and quite a hero, too. And to become such a special preceptor in this sampradaya with jupiter in the 8th. Jupite is the lord of the house of books- how could he have authored so many books and have sold so many millions across the world if the thrid lord is in the eighth. I know that Mercury would still have been favorable under Capricorn, but then it would have been a mtte of one good indication, one bad one, and that does not indicate such a successful author like Shrila Prabhupada. From Sagittarius, both the third lord as well as Mercury are special. Shrila Prabhupada had an older sister. From Sagittarius rising this fgits in well with the idea of Saturn in his own sign. Saturn limits the number, but in his own sign and house still gives a good result. From Capricorn lagna, there would have to be at least two or three older siblings, and one male older sibling among them. And Sagittarius fits in well with the fact that Shrila Prabhupada " projected " the movement and that he had such an executive air about him. This is the way that I look at it. I just wanted some other opinions and still look forward to hearing a few. Guest guest
Dear Dean and Nicholas, Sagittarius Rising fits while Capricorn rising should be rejected. The reasons are following: Guru/ketu and surya in trines are Shiva Yoga and a person is a Yogi and God Devotee. Guru in 8th house creates Asura Yoga. Budh and shukra in 10th house, shukra with neecha Bhanga create Fame. It indicates that prithivi tatwa dominated in body of Srila, while Dhanu Lagna with strong sun as lagnesh dispositor, indicate Yellowish complexion and strong bones/vitality(together with pritiwi tatwa) Ketu dasha in 8th house cannnot be so frutful in case of Makara lagna.Paka Lagna dealing with applied intelligence of Lagna(satya) is in 9th house of Dharma and religion and speaks volume about greatness of Srila Prabhupada, while Paka lagna in Tula with exalted saturn would create person applying his intelligence in professional/business field. Chandra mangala Yoga in 5th house for Capricorn lagna would indicate rich and materialistic Yoga. There is more elaborate analyses of this chart by Pt. Sanjay Rath where he analyzed navamsa, saptamsa, dwadasamsa etc. proving that Srila was born under Saggitarius Lagna. I think that even Santhanam under his commentary of Brihat Parashara, used Dhanu Lagna for Srila Prabupada birth. Guest guest
Dear Dharmapadaji When I first heard about the Capricorn lagna (originally I heard about this dispute from Nalini) I also thought it was wrong . It takes considerable experience to understand the full glories of the Capricorn rising chart ..The Sagittarius rising chart advocates usually avoid that the 5th Lord the second most dharmic in this chart that goes to the6th and is conjunct the 8th and is thus in a weakened and afflicted state . However it is the 8th house in the Cap. chart which is the stumbling block for the advocates of Sag. rising . This is because the 8th house is considered the most malefic one of it's designations is it is the house of irreligion . Yet using this definition for a moment placing Ketu there is a good idea because Ketu represents absence or restriction . Ketu in the 9th in my experience often denotes a person who is quite impersonal .Also another point is that Jupiter and Ketu are tightly conjunct .If Jupiter is the Lord of the 1st then that would bring enormous restrictions to the self, the body, the childhood ,the ability to achieve goals inlife, physical beauty .On the other hand if Jupiter is Lord of the 12th that would indicate absence of pleasures of the bed and other physical pleasures and expenses but it would not inhibit the spiritual side of the 12th house . The 12th going to the 8th brings losses to irreligion . So the reservations that people have about the Capricorn chart have sound explanations available . However the reservations that I and others have about the Sagittarius chart have not been suficiently addressed imho. All glories to Srila Prabhupada Nicholas > dean <0108 > gjlist > [gjlist] Lagna Sign Dispute ... > Wednesday, 25 October 2000 12:43 > > Nicholas, > > I feel rather strongly about Sagittarius rising. Guest guest
Dear Zoran,Manvantara,Dharmapada and Natabara Thanks for your thoughts and realisations on this subject . During Prabhupada's lifetime there was also contoversy as to the correct lagna . Pandit Ojha who stuck with Capricorn as given by Srila Prabhupada correctly predicted his demise in November 1977 due to Ketu's natal placement in the 8th and Saturn the lagna Lord transitting the 8th from Lagna while the 8th Lord the Sun was debilitated.Others who rectified it to Sagittarius Lagna did not forsee this eventuality . A few points briefly from the various posts .Santhanam was given the rectified time rather than the original one . Yogas generally need good houses to manifest with the exception of the infamous Vipareet Raja Yoga ..Although Jupiter in 8th is generally a shocker Lord of the 12th in 8th is lauded in the classics and function takes precedence to nature . I expect this contoversy to be around a long while (maybe 10,000 years) and do not expect my tiny voice to make any difference . Both are great charts and so may all those who are trying to fully understand this great saint and his teachings through the study of astrology and his chart be blessed with Krsna Prema. Dear Dean, This is not in defence of either lagna, but to clarify certain points for my knowledge. 1. You say Saturn is in his own sign. I find Saturn in Libra. 2. Can a Lagna within the very last few minutes of a sign be strong and give a strong personality? 3. Why should Capricorn give many elder siblings? The 11th would be aspected by Mars and exalted WANING Moon.I would have thought this deprives one of elder siblings. I admit that he apparently had one older sister. Capricorn´s 3rd house has aspect of Mercury and Venus. So I would expect younger siblings. But the owner is in 8th and has an 8th aspect, which could destroy the effect. Sagittarius´3rd house has its lord exalted and gets the full aspect of Jupiter and sun, both well-placed in the 9th. So I would definitely expect younger siblings. Rahu in the third would have made them unorthodox, but hardly have destroyed the effects, being a shadow of saturn in own house. 4. A discussion of Karma and Dharma is also not really conclusive. If the saint came to teach Dharma, it was also his Karma to do so!... The life of a saint is no bed of roses! Sainthood does not come from indifference but through the overcoming of spiritual obstacles. Would be grateful for your elaboration. regards Mani
