Satish I recently was preparing a talk on Rahu and Ketu.In my experience

the nodes act as agents for their dispositors,altho planetary aspects to the

nodes can certainly modify their manifestations.Bob Wendell has suggested

that the deep exaltation points for rahu and ketu are 16 degrees taurus and

scorpio respectively,altho he acknowledges the ownership of mercury ruled and

jupiter ruled signs for rahu and ketu respectively.I find some value in his

suggestions. Aspects involving the dispositors of the nodes are very

Dear Suresh konda,

This is in reply to your question which was offered in

general to be answered by any person who knows

astrology. Here is the answer:

 

First of all, let me say that the rasis that you say

Rahu owns, is not correct in my humble opinion. In the

past 15 Years, whatever books I have read (more than

75) do suggest that Rahu / Ketu own the following

signs:

Rahu – Own Rasi is Virgo and Exalted in Gemini.

Ketu – Own Rasi is Pisces and exalted in Sagittarius.

 

Parasar or the original scholars have not accorded

these Rasis to Rahu/Ketu. It is the after-scholars who

studied the effects of these shadow planets in

different rasis and found that Rahu acts better

favorable in Virgo and most favorable in Gemini. Same

is with Ketu. There is an old legend story in the book

“Parasari” (which I need not repeat, as is known by

all) as to how planets got allocated their rasis. Rahu

and Ketu do not feature in that.

 

Anyway, moving to yr. next question – Do Rahu/Ketu

become functional benefices or malefic by virtue of

their lordships of auspicious houses in the horoscope,

like the 5th house / 9th / Lagna itself etc ? The

Answer is that because of the explanation in 2nd Para

above, Rahu/Ketu do not enjoy this privilege.

 

Their (Rahu/Ketu) diagnosis is done mostly this way:

They are said to be acting favorable if: (a) They are

singly placed in auspicious houses and are devoid of

aspects of Mars and or Saturn. or (b) They are joined

by benefic planets, mainly functional benefic not

natural benefic. (Yoga karaka or Lord of ascendant or

5th or 9th or 10th) or © Rahu acts favorably when

Saturn is better placed and Ketu acts favorably when

Mars is better placed. In Sanskrit they say, “Shani

vat Rahu Bhaum vat Ketu cha”. Added to all these

factors, it will give still better results if

Rahu/Ketu are in their respective owned or exalted

signs. I have seen in my experience that in horoscopes

with Taurus and Libra ascendants where Shani is yoga

karaka, and Rahu posited in 9th or 10th or 5th house

(either alone or with Shani) – such persons have got

all their material ambitions fulfilled in Rahu

Mahadasa – The irony is that Rahu in such cases acts

even better than Shani, himself. The reason for all

this is that these are “Chaya Graha” (shadow planets).

A shadow will always be like that of whose shadow it

is. A fat man’s shadow is going to be obviously fat

and a demon’s shadow is demon-like.

 

I offer to you here to carefully observe people who

have a lone Ketu in the 12th house (whatever be the

rasi in), they are normally highly spiritual and god

believing. Same case is with Rahu in 3rd or 5th or

9th house.

 

I am sure with this you can judge when do they act

badly, now.

 

It is difficult to generalize therefore whether Rahu

or Ketu are friends or foes to a planet. If you say,

Rahu is with Saturn in Libra, I will say then it is a

friend and Rahu is with Saturn in Aries then it is

enemy. The only generalization that we can do is that

Rahu and Ketu almost all times do not go good with

Jupiter, Moon, Venus and Sun.

 

We all are learners in astrology. I never demand that

what I say is correct and for that matter nobody

should say that. Astrology is an ocean. What I say is

from my experience and readings. If any one has some

thing to contradict with what I say then I shall be

more than happy to enrich my knowledge further.

 

We have a few astro-friends in India and abroad. I

sincerely hope that you would not mind if such

discussions are shared with them by copying such

emails. This is in the interest of propagating

astrology and more important to learn through each

other’s experience – one way to make the world
