Partha:

Sorry, BPHS refers to Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, which is the most

definitive written account of jyotish. Many people cite it to support

different techniques and approaches, as if the book is the 'ulitmate

reference' and settles all arguments. In fact, many people see it as more

than just a book, preferring to think of it as a sacred source of a

"revealed science" from ancient sages. For an agnostic like me, though, I

think of it as just an important book, albeit with a very impressive track

record!

It is simply a reference book, perhaps a compendium of information from pre

Parashara sages as well as Parashara's own thoughts, nothing more, nothing

less. One common myth that is accepted without questioning even by quite

even-keeled jyotishis is that Parashara is the father of jyotish. Obviously

not, as in his text he refers to earlier saints, etc. He was probably the

first person to organize what was available into one place.

And, there is a lot more in jyotish that he does not touch upon.
