Guest guest
Dear Members of this List, I have being waiting for the opportunity to talk about the exact time of a birth. That opportunity came today in another list and by answering to it i also want to give you this valuable information. I understand the problem of time keeping for birthdays. I was present on the birth of 2 of my children and it is difficult to remember to keep an eye on the clock and another eye on what is going on. On one occasion, the two nurses forgot as well and they decided to just write down an aproximate time, i had to tell them. Some astrologers say that the birth time is when the baby is first seen, others say that it is when the head appears, others have the opinion that it is the time when the baby first cry and I have read from Srila Prabhupada's books ( a master in Vedic literature) that the birth time is when the umbilical cord is severed from the mother's body, making the child independent. Depending on the management of the nurses, the cutting of the umbilical cord is done within no more than a couple of minutes after the body of the child is out. "It is enjined in the sastras that as long as a child is joined with the mother by the navel pipe, the child is considered to be of one body with the mother, but as soon as the pipe is cut and the child is separated from the mother, the purificatory process of jatakarman is performed" From Purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 1.12.14 (pag 625) by Srila Prabhupada. I hope that this reference is helpful to you. Yours, Natabara Das
