Guest guest
Jyotish, Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavat Purana, Mahabharat... These "titles" and subjects are accredited to a father/son team of authors who lived supposedly 5000 years ago, named Parashara and Vyas. We can read their works today. They explain all about God, Karma, Dharma, Jyotish, and these soul related matters. The Bhagavad Gita is ONE CHAPTER from the Great History Book known as the Mahabharat. Krishna is speaking to Arjuna, and this one chapter is rightly called "The Hindu Bible" if you will, because it is so widely used by many Hindus as their "main basic book of faith". Everything is God, true. But also not. This is explained in the Gita by Krishna. Krishna specifically says that he is NOT responsible for the Good and Bad actions of people here, nor their suffering. He also calls us "deludedin ignorance" and so on. It's not all roses. Suffering hurts. So things are not all right. There is a problem here, and each of us suffers. So there is real need to move on and make progress, at least internally, and that's what Veda comes to teach. To make light of it all with sweeping statements of absolute philosophical meaning only, isn't really helpful to anyone. Ulitmately, he teaches how to survive mentally while living/learning here. The Gita is mostly about his friend's Arjuna's internal understanding, since after hearing the Gita, he went right back to the war. But he said "his doubts were now gone", which felt a whole lot better for him. So Vedic philosophy comes to teach us how to understand. It has always contained the relative and absolute views, and the absolute view, is that all is in God, or "in God's hands". The relative view gives rise to codes of action aimed at improving one's relative position. Dharma refers to those codes as they pertain to not engrossing oneself further in negative karmic ties which will carry the soul downward in relative position. There is dharma and a-dharma, or religion and irreligion. There is Karma, vikarma, ugrakarma, niskarma, and so on. There are many states of these standard words. Sanskrit and Veda are exacting. The discussion we are having hear is too simple to be called erudite in a Vedic sense. The general understandings however are close to correct. Most people conceive of dharma as "trying to be properly religious for one's position in life", and that is correct. For example, a woman's dharma, is a little different from a man's dharma, but never is it someone's dharma to round up an entire race of people, and poison gas them to death. Never is that one's dharma. That is adharma, and will take one to countless lives of hellish rebirths in the worst conditions. >From experience I know, that when men are full of Mars themselves, they often refer to the great and bombastic works of other great Mars men. This invites Mars upon them. This is not a good path. In general, all thuggery must be forgotten. Those persons who can REMAIN in control of their senses are always peaceful, and Mars is never peaceful. So basically Mars is something which is not found in the Saintly. True, real Sannyasis are always so peaceful. Mars is agressive and causes pain. We cannot artificially abandon Mars prematurely in our lives, but we should watch out for it and have a very prejudiced eye against it's effects in our lives. It must be kept in check for there to be real progress for humans. Mars is a lower impulse not helpful as one gets closer to real spiritual life. If one has a strong Mars, if it is always under control, then that is very good. Energy without agression is fine. If one has Pitta problems, anger, agression, etc., then one should take to reducing their Pitta through diet and so on, in order to find greater peace. I have had to do this. I used to drink coffee, but now I do not. I got a list of foods marked as good, medium, and bad for Pitta dosha, and I'm trying to follow it. (You can contact http://www.ayurveda-herbs.com for one of his diet consultations, which is what I did.) This is _following_ Vedic instructions rather than just talking about them. If we do a little bit to rid the world of unnecessary Mars, we are really helping to create a better future for everyone.
