Guest guest Posted June 13, 2000 Report Share Posted June 13, 2000 Dear List members Today at Mata Amritanandamayi ashram, a local San Francisco Bay area spiritual retreat center. a fire from a propane tanks exploded, seriously injuring at least 4 people and hurting approximately 5 more who required hospitalization. The fire was contained by crews who rushed to the scene, limiting the grass fire to 2 acres (quite a feat considering the 104 temperature and gusting winds). This explosion occured at 3.30 pm PST, in San Ramon California USA if anyone is interested in casting a horary chart for this tragedy. Although people were injured the damage was minimal...the explosion occured between morning and evening darshan so not many people were on grounds. Also of note is the guru, Ammachi as she is known to beloved devotees, was in the vicinity although not directly near the fire. Many people believe that her grace and the grace of God gave protection that otherwise would have turned to an even greater disaster. Prayers to the injured and their loved ones and Mother Kali. I have spent many quiet and happy hours visiting and meditating there and have a dear friend who spent long retreats in the ashram during two major life changes and illness. That ashram has been blessed with wise teachers and leaders ! Thank you for telling the list of this incident that could have been a very horrible tragedy such as the Oakland fires a few years back.
