Mars can give good effects, too, I agree! The way I've been reading these is

to check first to see what is going on in navamsa -- it seems to really make

a difference. For example, in my own case ( and this is why I asked the

question yesterday), Mars is a troublemaker in a bad house, but it is also

exalted in navamsa -- which probably doesn't shut down its violent tendencies

but it does mitigate it somewhat. Is it vargottama? This helps the mars as

well. I have been in three major accidents in my life and each time I was

either knocked out or the accident, though it could have been deadly, was

nothing much.

Saturn dasa with mars bhukti and mars in the two next levels

brought...nothing. I think that happened also in jupiter dasa.

You should also check bindus, bhava bala, and shad bala, to see the overall

condition of the twelfth house and planet mars. Some people say that an evil

planet in an evil house is a good thing, because it gives strength to fight

the evil. Also look for Vipreet Raj yoga.

Instead of reading this as a death sentence I would say -- since mars is lord

of four and nine -- watch the health of the mother and home and property --

watch the career-- because one of these might change, fast.

Accidents: Maybe. But maybe not! It never hurts to tell someone to be

careful, but there is also always the danger of being scared to death! In

mars dasa, no matter how well placed mars is, getting one's brakes checked

and deciding not to skydive are probably both good ideas. Then again, anyone

can tell you this -- they have, in any period, some percentage of a chance

of being right.

If I were you I wouldn't dwell on this: The twelfth house is the house of

Liberation -- not the house of Injury; the house of freedom from burdens, not

the house of Jail. It rules: Liberation, enlightenment, sexual pleasures(

possibly secret ones), detention, confinement, working within confinement (

will mars free the person from a rotten job, as lord of the ninth? ) loss,

poverty ( but also charity -- as both giver and receiver), mercy ( probably

very evident with Cancerian twelfth) sleep, self sacrifice, pilgrimages (

will he leave his childhood home to find his fortune? Sound possible with

Cancer lord of twelfth) life after death, previous incarnations ( will this

mars activate karma for good or ill?), self sacrifice, betrayal, and

clumsiness! ( sounds like a good time to take up a balancing phsyical

discipline -- why not martial arts? )

Dear Nicholas:

I have yet another Mars question like others.

I am reading a chart of a person who has Leo lagna with sun, mercury,

ketu in 2nd, venus in 4th, Jup in 5th, Moon and Rahu conjoined in 8th

and delibitated mars in 12th in Cancer. He has had his chart read by a

couple of well known Indian Astrologers in India and they both said that

in his Mars dasa (he is at present in Moon Rahu dasa) he would be prone

to accidents, hospitalization, imprisonment etc. I disagree - the

reason being: Mars being the lord of 4th and 9th house (Kendra & Trine)

should not be that bad for Leo lagna as Mars is also a friend of lagan

lord. I have checked with this guy and he says even in his various mars

antardasas, he has never met with even a minor accident.

Can you and others please comment on this. Thank you.

Hello Shamim and List members:

1. Thanks for the information. Mars is quite weak due to debilitation, bad

placement and affliction from Rahu.

2. As per my knowledge the conditions are indicative of troubles to father

and chequered fortune. There are also indications of accidents not only due

to weakness of Mars but also due to influence of the Moon and Rahu on the

8th house.

3. But, if such incidents have not occurred then it is good. I believe

that the natal indications need a trigger to fructify. So, even though many

Mars periods have gone by, the necessary transit triggers for accident etc.

may not have occurred. In my opinion the native has to be careful.

On the contrary, during the mars period, this person, may be taking up

residence in some foreign country and may face problems relating to property

in a foreign land.

Dear Shamin

I have one chart in my files of a Leo lagna with Mars in 12th .His Mars

mahadasha fell in child hood and early adolescence when he was quite

rebellious .He did not regard it as a very happy time . He resides in a

foreign country and does not own any property . In practise if there are

half a dozen common meanings for the 4th house

and half a dozen common meanings for the 12th then you have 36

possibilities .However it can be said more safely that debilitated planets

give unhappiness and planets in the 12th give weak results .I do not think

hospitalization is necessarily a good reading from this because Mars does

not afflict the 12th.If the transits are poor and the lagna Lord is weak

then hospitilization is a possibility .You have to see many things line up

before making such prediction not base it on a single point . It is however

a waste to place the yoga karaka in a dusthana .

Hope this helps

Nicholas
