Exaltation and Debilitation

I'm confused about the rules of E and D. If mars, for example, is at 28

degrees Cancer, it is debilitated. If it is at 20 degrees Cancer, is it still

debilitated or less debilitated than at 28 degrees? Or does that hold true

for the whole sign of Cancer? Likewise with exaltation. If this planet were

in Capricorn at two degrees, would that make it exalted? Or would it have to

be at 28 degrees?

Also, is it true that if a planet is exalted in rasi but debilitated in

navamsa, this debiltates the planet? What about in dusthana houses? Can the

status be changed through a change in status in navamsa?

Thanks.

:). thanks Nicholas! This is the eventual conclusion I came to, since the

texts I've read always say both things; for example, mars DEB at 28 degrees,

however, in readings for the whole sign the planet is still debilitated.

I'll happily read my own chart this way -- mars in cancer in the eighth, but

in Capricorn in Navamsa ( and still in the eighth at six degrees ) gives its

worst effects in the earlier part of life, and improves somewhat as time goes

on, perhaps not protecting the poor beleaguered accident prone native totally

but at least giving her a fighting chance. There is also Vipreet Raj yoga

with the lord of twelfth ( scorpio ) in the eighth. Mars is also the

strongest planet in abovesaid poor beleaguered accident prone native's Shad

Bala.

Hope! I'm about eighty five percent sure of my reading: What do you think?

Thanks again.

: ). Hi Marcia. Vipreet Raja Yoga is when the lord of a dusthana house ( 6,

8, 12) is in another dusthana house -- so if mars, which rules scorpio on the

twelfth house cusp, is in the eighth, this is Vipreet Raja Yoga. It's

supposed to temper the evil there by containing it or maybe the idea is two

negatives make a positive or something like this. The Lord should also be

alone in the house. It doesn't have to be a natural malefic lord for Vipreet

to work -- Libra could be on the twelfth with venus in the eighth.

It also helps to not be Buddy Holly. :).

Manoj, thanks for your answer -- can you just clarify this for me? I was

understanding that exaltation and debilitation are not included in Shadbala

calculations? Or is that wrong?

Thanks.

No. It can be with lord of that particular house.

Idealy, Vipreet is when lord of 6th, 8th or 12th is not at the same time

lord of trine or quadrant.

REgarding Navamsha, no this does not debilitate the planet, theoretically

but does make the planet weak in its overall assessment.

Dear Vox

The theory is that Mars is at full exaltation at 20 degrees .It is still

exalted throughout Capricorn . The theory for the Moon is that it is

eaxlted in the first 3 degrees of Taurus where it is at full exaltationand

after that it is in it's MT sign for the last 27 degrees of Taurus .

One problem with this is that at it's suppopsedly point of full exaltation

it is infancy .I stick to the SA definitions of exaltation and MT which

seem logical.and simple and use the full sign for exaltation and

debilitation and do not ascribe any particular degree as giving more

exaltation .

A planet exalted in Rasi and debillitated in Navamsa will give good results

at first and poor results later .A planet which is debilitated in rasi and

exalted in Navamsa will give poor results st first and better results later

..Planets are weak in dusthanas and struggle to give good results even when

exalted .

Very much! Thank you! I was assuming from the aforementioned Book On

Astrology For Westerners Which Is Often Wrong that you had to read exalted or

debilitated condition separately.

It is indeed a part of it. Shadbala is strength calculated in six ways and

exaltation is called Uccha Bala and is part of Sthana Bala. Hope it helps
