Guest guest
Hi I met recently an old french astrologer who uses bhavas clockwise (opposite direction of the signs) instead of counterclockwise (same directions as signs). He argues that the 12th house, which is the end of things, should not be after sunrise but rather before. same for the 8th house of death: it should be after sunset, not before, and along with the other houses. His system sounds very logical to me, though the traditional system seems to work very well also. What do you think of this? Should the meaning of the houses match with the hours of the day? thank you Sundari
Guest guest
Dear SUndari, I have seen western astrolgers who have wondered about that and thought about how sunrise and sunset could influence the meaning of the houses. BUt the principle of the houses is not based upon where the sunshine is. It is based on the rising sign. The sign that rises at birth is of course the most important, the lagna. What is the next sign to rise, it is the sign on the second house, not the sign on the 12th house, the sign on the 12th house is the last sign to rise after the birth. Also, the sign that rose at birth will have set when the 8th house sign rises. Hope that clarifies things for you. Guest guest
Dear Sundari, Jaya Jagannath That chap must have learnt astrology from some books and could be quite new to this. In any case he seems to be under the influence of the nodes who always do things the wrong way!! At least there is no disagreement on the precedence of signs i.e. Aries is followed by Taurus and so on. Thus the houses also follow the same natural order. He says the houses in reverse order to the signs work much better, and has even written a book on this. he says that the meaning of the houses don't match the hours of the day. Ex. 12th house (end of things, death) is after sunrise, 1st house before sunrise, 8th house (death) before sunset instead of after (which would make more sense). He says that hindus used to do it that way before, and then they were wrongly influenced by the Greeks. I met him in an astrology symposium in Calcutta. Guest guest
Dear Sundari in Calcutta they have a saying " do any damned thing : walk around on your hands or hang upside down from a tree so long as you get noticed . This chap must have taken this saying to heart . Best Wishes Nicholas He has been doing astrology for the last 50 years and done thousands of charts! He says the houses in reverse order to the signs work much better, and has even written a book on this. he says that the meaning of the houses don't match the hours of the day.
