If we are paying attention, I don't see how any truly open person

could not feel that our treatment of animals is a worldwide tragedy

and crisis.

Having said that. PETA I do not support because there methods are

not dharmic.

We need balanced, sane and mature voices to gain credibilty on this

issue, which will not be solved instantaneously, but only after an

evolution in awareness on a global level.

our abuse to animals is also the root of food shortages, bad health,

pollution and waste of resources. I can see this in my own life. I

notice that I don't really need that much food....and I definitely

don't need to eat animals....the mythology, habits and programming

around food are truly intense.

When I was doing lap Seva once, someone brought food up to Amma to

be blessed. As one of the Seva ladies went to pull the food away

from Amma, Amma in a play acting way began to pull the food back in

a greedy fashion. She opened the package furiously (hot peppers and

hot onions and pastries) she popped these into her mouth and chewed

ravaneously. Of course everyone began laughing. The Seva person

tried to take the food away a second time. Amma gave her a dirty

look, yanked the food back and began stuffing the pastry in her

mouth, food flying every where and falling down her body. It was so

funny, but right in middle of this performance her eyes twinjled and

she looked at me knowingly.

I felt a shiver down my spine, because I realized that she was

describing my own relationship to food. greedy grabby, eating far

too much. I have since slowly worked on eating less and fasting each

week. When I eat less, my health improves DRAMATICALLY.
