Dear All,

Thank you so much everyone for your insights regarding my desire to help end the unbelievably inhumane method of slaughter of cows in India for cheap leather. Since it is already illegal to slaughter a cow in most of India, the main issue so far seems to be simply raising awareness, much like campaigns to stop ivory poachers and similar. I am looking into all of the possible solutions, including contacting the Jain group shown in the video.. Even if the MA Mission Trust is not able to help, I cannot forget the images of those beautiful and majestic animals being skinned alive. How Krishna would weep!

I've been doing a lot of research about animal agricultural practices in the US and in other parts of the world, and the more I learn, not just about the suffering, but of the vast ecological and economical impact of factory farming, the more I am conviced that what is happening is one of the greatest tradgedies in the history of this earth. Only most people have little or no interest in learning the facts, they just continue looking the other way, and accusing animal rights advocates of going too far in getting the message out there to the public.

I'm not blaming the people out there who eat meat and wear leather and fur, because I'm sure that anyone who knew the full extent of the problem would not, could not support it. I blame the industries that continually feed the public bogus health statistics and come up with advertising slogans such as "Happy cows come from California" or the Mc Donald's childrens commercial which said that hamburgers grow in a hamburger patch, like vegetables do.

To me it just seems to be in total violation of everything that Amma stands for. We can't say that just because there are so many suffering humans, that this is a secondary issue. The impact on our enviroment and on world hunger alone is reason enough, for humanities' sake, never mind the animals. So I am definately going to ask Amma if she has any suggestions. At the risk of sounding like a birkenstock-wearing sixties throwback PETA freak, I pray for the day when all forms of life will be honored and treated with respect. And if we must kill them for food or otherwise, lets at least make sure that they are unconscious before we dismember them.

  Salutations to the ultimate activist,

  At Amma's Birkenstock-clad feet,

Namah Shivayah Prajna,

I just had to "virtually" stand up and second all of the below statements. I volunteer at an

animal sanctuary for neglected and abused animals, and many of the animals have been

rescued from slaughter houses and severe torture. It is amazing to interact with these

evolved beings, and see how much they give love even after having been so disrespected

and tortured by the human race. The issue of animal rights is very close to my heart, and I

appreciate your passion. Animal rights is not a secondary issue to Amma, for we are all

her children. I remember reading somewhere when someone asked Amma about her

stance on vegetarianism, she replied something to the effect of "Why take the life of an

innocent animal if it is not necessary". Of course Amma would support animal

compassion...have you ever seen her interact with animals? So beautiful.

Really, I cannot understand eating the corpse of a previously tortured animal. It appears as

absurd to me, and breaks my heart as well.

I do take the issue of animal rights personally....because I see these animals

everyday....they come from abuse, neglect and auctions where they are scheduled to be

someones hamburger. I do take it personally because I see their love, compassion and

pure innocence and it reminds me of everything my Divine Mother speaks of.

So yeah, I guess I am a PETA supporting, Birkenstock wearing,

60's throwback, animal rights shouter... But I

am also Amma's daughter....and I am all of these things because her compassion inspires

me.

BEST OF LUCK IN YOUR COMPASSIONATE QUEST!

In Amma's Service,

keep following your heart my dear sister. in doing that you are allowing

AMMA to guide you.if this child was a cow he would be so greatful to your

efforts.he is not a cow and he is still gretaful for what AMMA has inspired

you to do.

MOTHER SAYS THAT SPIRITUALITY IS TO SYMPATHIZE WITH OTHERS AND TO PUT

YOURSELF IN THEIR SHOES.DOES THIS NOT INCLUDE THE ANIMALS?IT WAS THE ANIMALS

THAT FED AMMA WHEN THE HUMANS IN HER LIKE LABELED HER AN OUTKAST AND CRAZY.
