viramAtA : Mother of warriors.

VirA, chief among devotees, or those slain in battle. Mother because

she benefits them.

VirA, according to the Visva, means, the vessel which contains the

mead, mAtA, measurer. Vira is a name of Ganesa. In the PAdma Pr.

Siva when speaking about Vira says, "This Vira, O Devi, is always

dear to my heart, he is the teacher of wonderful feats, he is

worshipped by multitudes of Ganesas"

After hearing this Devi replies, "I desire to have such a son, O

PurAntaka, when shall I see such a bliss-conferring son?"

Then Siva say,s "Let this man be thy son, who is pleasing in our

eyes. Through you that son will become accomplished," SutA

said :"Thus having spoken, she, the daughter of HimavAn, delighted,

send VijayA, [her servant] to fetch Vira quickly"

She is the Mother of Viras. i.e. those devotees who are competent to

lead the battle against evil forces. Cp. name 777/

vIrArAdhyA, "worshiped by the Viras."

Ganapati is also called Vira. She is His Mother.
