Guest guest
27th April 2006 Thursday In the morning Swami came out around 8.15 AM and sat in the bhajans. It was the turn of the sevadal members to sing bhajans. Swami sat for 35 minutes, accepted aarathi and returned to Trayee. In the evening Swami came out at 4.20 PM. Walking up to the front Swami sat down and listened to bhajans. After 5 bhajans ,Swami called the warden and asked him to introduce to the audience the speaker for the evening, Sri Sanjay Mahalingam. In an excellent speech rooted in the highest Vedanta Sanjay spoke about the pristine Love that can be experienced only when one tunes into one’s true Self. There is only one God and that God is the innermost Self in every being. The purpose of human existence is the realization of this Self and all other desires are at best distractions. The ghost of ‘ego’ needs to be exorcised by enquiry. After Sanjay concluded, Swami blessed him lovingly. He then signaled for Meera bhajans. The students sang ‘Payoji maine’, ‘Mere tho giridhara gopal’ and ‘darshana dene avo pyare’ . Swami then gestured that a group song should be sung. ‘Humkothumse pyar kithna’ was sung full-throated by all the students. Swami accepted aarathi and retired. It was already 5.30 PM. It looked like there would be no Trayee session. Even as the students were returning to the hostel, word came that Swami had called us into Trayee. Swami was already seated on the Porte sofa as we entered Trayee. Swami started the conversation by asking many students to tell what they had understood of Sanjay’s speech. After listening to a few boys Swami said, “ nobody seems to have understood what he said“. Swami asked about the vacations. “Till when are the vacations?“ The conversation then turned to what lunch the students had had in the morning. When Swami asked one of the students why he had not sung he said “Swami you did not tell“. Swami quickly retorted,“ did I ask you to have lunch?“ Swami then remarked that it was time for the students to go for dinner. Aarathi was taken and as Swami retired he collected letters from a number of students and elders.
