Namaskar and thank you for your post............hum is taught to be pronounced

in two different ways depending on how you have recieved your

teaching...........have heard it pronounced as hum like phoneticly sounding out

the word humming........like you are humming a song..........the have also seen

it as Hoom and this would be gramaticly correct for the Devanagari Letter

U...........There are two U letters in Devanagari........one is pronounced

phonetically as a short O and one as a long OO............last one like in

Hoom..........so if you know the Devanagari Alphabet then you can read on the

Yantras or in the books how to pronounce

Suggestion for first reading would be Healing Mantras by Thomas Ashley Farrand

that you can find on Amazon.com or at www.sanskritmantra.com

He teaches the Mantras by phonetics meaning if you know english language then

you are able to read his book and get an idea of what Maharishi Panini was

trying to teach about pronounciation when he made the rules for Sanskrit Speach

hope this helps

Wishing you and Family the Best

DD
