Guest guest
Dear devotees, It is nice to be back to this forum after a long gap. This long gap had given me more knowledge and more maturity after reading finest Hindu books. His Holiness Kanchi Kamakoti Chandrasekhara Swamigal, a.k.a "Paramacharya", who attained HIS lotus feet few years back has mentioned in a book on the constant battle between different sects of devotees trying to highlight their "desired" God. This battle is very common between the devotees of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu in South India. HH gives a very great yet simple explanation. He says that both these Lords are the same. There is no "war on powers" between them. Lord Rama (avathar of Vishnu) worships Lord Shiva before he went to destroy Ravana in Srilanka. His wife Seetha Devi constantly worshipped Lord Shiva. Likewise, Lord Shiva worshipped Lord Vishnu in many occasion - according to puranas. He draws a humorous analogy to this. This is similar to having several delicious products out of milk - such as yogurt, buttermilk, ghee. Actually he draws an analogy with south Indian food - I didn't mention that not knowing how many people can understand that. In a nutshell, both are the same. They exist in differnt forms to give us happiness in multitudes. Also on Lord Ganesha - he tells us a short story on the powers of Lord Ganesha. Once when Ovaiyaar was worshipping Lord Ganesha, others were rushing her to leave for Vaikundam as they had agreed to meet Lord Vishnu. However, Ovaiyaar was not keen on giving up her pooja to Lord Ganesha. Finally she told them to go ahead and she would join. They all intimidated that she would be late and would miss the darshan of Lord. She still wouldn't want to give up her pooja. Bear in mind she was 80+. As soon as she finished her pooja, Lord Ganesha grabbed her by the trunk and threw her up in the sky and she landed in Vaikundam way before others. He tells this story to give us the message that Lord Ganesha can help us do hardest thing with little or no pain. It would be very wrong if anyone would miss Lord Ganesha out in the worship. In fact, without praying Ganesha, even Aswametha Yagams are useless. If someone has time and patience, please buy the book "Hindu Dharma". These are consolidated lectures of HH. This came out in 7 volumes in Tamil. I have all of them. Regards Mahesh
Guest guest
DDji was wondering about the ISKCON Vaishnava devotees and not recognizing Lord Ganesha. That is certainly not true! The ISKCON institution comes out of the Brahma-Madhwa Vaishnava tradition. I found an ISKCON related page which gives a lot of details on this: http://www.salagram.net/parishad124Ganesha%20Chaturthi.html#acharyas Satyadharma >...if you are talking about the same IKSCON group or Krishna > Consciousness Group that I heard of that does not recognize Lord Ganesha in their > group.........now thats a real mistake.......no body in their right mind leaves > Lord Ganesha out...........they have been going into bankruptcy here in the US , "kmahesh0" <kmahesh0> wrote: > Dear devotees, > > It is nice to be back to this forum after a long gap. Guest guest
Dear Maheshji, Very simple yet powerful message on the significance of Lord Ganesha. It reminds me of the story of Lord Ganesha and Lord Kumaraswamy's pradakshana around the world. Best Regards, Divakar. --- kmahesh0 <kmahesh0 wrote: > Dear devotees, > > It is nice to be back to this forum after a long > gap. Guest guest
Dear Members, I hope everything is well with you all. Because of personal activities I have not been able to react to manny discussions as I only had enough time to go through then briefly as I actually doing now. In my quest for ultimate self realisation I've studies the brahma-madhava sampradaya since I learned from it 20 years ago. I myself have attended manny fire sacrifices performed by the followers of that sampradaya since that time and have always observed that Lord Ganesha was first properly addressed. My understanding is that they accept all Devis and Devatas and respect them according to their position. Manny modern time Hindus make a kichary of the pantheon of God and the Devi-Devatas. They have no proper understanding of the structure and hierarchy amongst the Devi devatas and shastras. I myself had troubles with manny newcomers in that group who have no understanding of the real teachings of that line and preached unnuanced their philosophy. When you dig deeper though and meet more advanced people you can have a better picture and appreciation. When we study shastra we even see that Mother Yashodha, Nanada baba and the inhabitants of Vrindavana, Mathura and Dwaraka properly respected and worshipped the Devi-Devatas. We should understand the deeper philosophy behind this and the particular siddhanta and than all these apparent misunderstandings and subsequent strife can be easily reconciled. With warm regards I humbly remain.
