Guest guest
Dear Manish Ji yes is another misconception.............garlic and onions do interfer with meditation........Is like people from the TM Organization telling people that peanut butter interferes with meditation.........goodness only knows why people say senseless things like this....maybe it is simply to impress others with their posture of knowledge no one else has......chewing gum doesnt interfere with meditation either so we can all put that one to rest before somebody finds chewing gum to be a problem Am wondering if you are talking about the same IKSCON group or Krishna Consciousness Group that I heard of that does not recognize Lord Ganesha in their group.........now thats a real mistake.......no body in their right mind leaves Lord Ganesha out...........they have been going into bankruptcy here in the US Purple onions are extrememly good for the body and garlic the same as garlic will cut the problem with eating ghee as a standard part of the diet The way to choose a sweet onion is to choose one that is more flat than round.....at some times during the season of growing onions farmers employees go into the field and push over the tops of the mature onions.....probably do this by merely stepping on the tops or cutting them off.............then you get a flat sweet onion in the purple onions because the onion no longer sends the juices to the tops.......the round yellow onions are totally hot and then there are sweet round hawaiian onions and mexican aztec sweet onions..........so now we have so many sweet onion varieties we have more options and dont have to suffer from the hot round yellow onions that used to be so common about 3 years ago in one part of India the community put on a gigantic demonstration and stopped traffic on the roads until the local government stepped in and made sure they got their allotment of onions.........onions were a large part of their diet and this incident made it to the Indo American newspapers in the US hope this helps a little Thanks DD In a message dated 8/22/2005 1:17:26 PM Pacific Standard Time, no_reply writes: > > > Namaste DD > > Thanks for your answer, that is great news considering i love my > spicy and tasty indian foods. Guest guest
Dear DDji, I have read somewhere in some yoga book about satvic, tamasic and rajasic foods, it said satvic food is devoid of spices, fats meat and dairy products, Tamasic and Rajasic foods are more spicy and tasty for pleasure and do not help in spiritual development. But scientifically spices are considered as medicinal and good for the body, What is your take on the Satvic, Rajasic and Tamasic foods. There is a old saying in india that spicy food makes one aggressive, I am not sure about it though Regards, Divakar. --- AumShiningLotus wrote: > Dear Manish Ji > > yes is another misconception.............garlic and > onions do interfer with > meditation........Is like people from the TM > Organization telling people that > peanut butter interferes with > meditation.........goodness only knows why people > say senseless things like this....maybe it is simply > to impress others with > their posture of knowledge no one else > has......chewing gum doesnt interfere > with meditation either so we can all put that one to > rest before somebody finds > chewing gum to be a problem > > Am wondering if you are talking about the same > IKSCON group or Krishna > Consciousness Group that I heard of that does not > recognize Lord Ganesha in their > group.........now thats a real mistake.......no body > in their right mind leaves > Lord Ganesha out...........they have been going into > bankruptcy here in the US > > Purple onions are extrememly good for the body and > garlic the same as garlic > will cut the problem with eating ghee as a standard > part of the diet > > The way to choose a sweet onion is to choose one > that is more flat than > round.....at some times during the season of growing > onions farmers employees go > into the field and push over the tops of the mature > onions.....probably do this > by merely stepping on the tops or cutting them > off.............then you get a > flat sweet onion in the purple onions because the > onion no longer sends the > juices to the tops.......the round yellow onions are > totally hot and then there > are sweet round hawaiian onions and mexican aztec > sweet onions..........so now > we have so many sweet onion varieties we have more > options and dont have to > suffer from the hot round yellow onions that used to > be so common > > about 3 years ago in one part of India the community > put on a gigantic > demonstration and stopped traffic on the roads until > the local government stepped in > and made sure they got their allotment of > onions.........onions were a large > part of their diet and this incident made it to the > Indo American newspapers > in the US > > hope this helps a little > > Thanks > > DD > > In a message dated 8/22/2005 1:17:26 PM Pacific > Standard Time, > no_reply writes: > > > > > > > Namaste DD > > > > Thanks for your answer, that is great news > considering i love my > > spicy and tasty indian foods. Guest guest
Namaste all, Onions and garlic are considered to be rajasic foods i.e. they increase rajas within the person who consumes them. It is a more philosophical case of you are what you eat! LOL It is suggested that a predominance of rajas in a person is generally not conducive to deep meditation, especially if they are inexperienced in this field. Moderation, as with most things in life, is the key. Om Shanti Neil www.shivabeads.co.uk [] On Behalf Of AumShiningLotus 22 August 2005 21:34 Re: RBSC : Re: question answered! Guest guest
Dear Divakar Ji Best place to get really specific about these food groups is to find the books by Dr David Frawley like Yoga and Ayurveda and The Yoga of Herbs..........Neil Ji is right.....the middle path is the best and different foods are for different uses........you are not going to see a laborer who digs ditches for 8 hours a day surviveing on potatoes and green pea soup.....they are going to be eating some type of meat so they can build muscle and continue to dig ditches with pick and shovel 40 hours a day.........needs to be said that there is a meat and leather industry in India.............about a year ago in the newspaper there was an article about a big Goddess Kali Festival maybe in Calcutta where they were going to kill 1000 goats in honor of the Goddess..........some people in the community thought this was not right and the stopped them from doing this...........so what happened to the 1000 goats.........they probably ended up in the butcher shop for food If you are a yogi is best to eat as much satvic food as possible as this makes a person light for meditation however all satvic food does not provide everything needed for a totally healthy body so a person needs to add some other foods in this age......following a middle path that is reasonable is always the best it seems however it always depends on the condition of your body......am sure a starveing yogi will eat anything offered up to a point to stay alive In the old days spices were used in India to keep the food fresh as there was no refrigeration so yogis and others most always ate fresh food and food that was spiced as a preservative so they would not get food poisoning Thanks DD In a message dated 8/23/2005 8:11:23 AM Pacific Standard Time, div_tan writes: > > > Dear DDji, > > I have read somewhere in some yoga book about satvic, > tamasic and rajasic foods, it said satvic food is > devoid of spices, fats meat and dairy products, > Tamasic and Rajasic foods are more spicy and tasty for > pleasure and do not help in spiritual development. > > But scientifically spices are considered as medicinal > and good for the body, > > What is your take on the Satvic, Rajasic and Tamasic > foods. Guest guest
Namaste my friend, Thanks for asking : ) I'm afraid not yet, we have recently put up new stock and uploaded the deity information pages, but I'm still in the process of writing the meditation pages. We are actually in the process of moving home (without yet having found a new place to live), so much time is going into this right now. But I am keen to get the meditation pages finished as I feel they will have much to offer, though I don't wish to rush them and running the risk of making them poor or forgetting to include something. But they will get done, that is a promise! Wishing you well, Om Shanti Neil www.shivabeads.co.uk [] On Behalf Of gcat_mmv 23 August 2005 11:23 RBSC : Re: question answered!
