Namaste,

Thank you friends for putting me on the right track again... i had no

idea... you now i do remember reading something about Tulsi and

Vishnu... i guess i automatically thought it could be offered to

Shivling too. Anyway, whats a "Bilva" leaf or plant?

O and another question...>>

Although i'm a vegitarian, i do love my spicy and hot indian (and

others) food which include onions and lots of garlic. Now i have read

in some books that I should not be wearing my rudraksha mala when

consuming these food ( i have also read that i shouldn't eat food like

carrot!!!!???<<< why not...? I guesss there is an issue with food which

are from the ground where insects could get to them<<< i'm i sort of

right?!). Also, there is an issue with wearing my mala whilst drinking

hot drinks like tea or soup!? << What's that about, can someone explain.

Thank you all for you replies in advance.

Namaskaar

I think you are confusing some of the stricter 'Vaishnava' philosophies

with Saivism. According to traditional saivism, there is not prescribed

restrictions to anything. However it is commonly experienced that when

you start wearing the holy beads, you tend to start eating less, and

eventually in many cases give up altogether, what is referred to in

sacred texts as 'tamsic' food. The defined 'tamsic' food is what you

are referring to in your e-mail below.

'Bilva' is a tree commonly found in most of India. The plant has

broadish leaves that are traditionally offered to the SivaLingam. These

are thought to be very auspicious leaves according to traditional

saivite beliefs.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

Anand
