I would like to think that George has quite elegantly put into words

pretty much the sum total of all that could have been said about the

supreme being. All depends upon what is it that "we" or more precisely

"I" the person finds peace in.

 

There are two ways of looking at our relationship with someone/something

that is beyond our current comprehension and is constantly referred to

as "God", "Supreme Being",and many other names. One is our physical

presence in the time-space continuum and our actions there-in based upon

our physical being. Second is the more illusive and less quantifiable

our astral being (our soul as we commonly refer to it). The two are

very much inter-twined and actions on one plane have resonance in the

other.

 

Our physical being is very much dependant upon the laws of nature. We

take birth, we grow, we carry out daily bodily functions, some of us

choose to re-produce and eventually we all die. However as described in

Hindu scriptures (That is the religion I come from and hence am

confident in quoting as a religion) we have what we call Karma and we

all perform in this physical world according to our Karma. Karma is

nothing more than the opportunities presented to each and every one of

us and we react and make choices based upon a number of factors.

According to Hinduism the factors would be our soul and experiences of

that soul in past life-times, the place where we happen to be in at the

time, the solar system & celestial bodies and their alignments at the

time and the time itself in the space-time continuum. Each choice we

make is given a sort of marks system either positive or negative or

zero. These choices we make lead to further opportunities and so on and

so on until we reach a stage where we can make the right choice to every

opportunity and thus leading to a state of having zero Karma. This

state is referred to as the "Maha Shoonya (the great zero)" and is the

state where we no longer need our physical form to continue our journey

and we can maintain our presence just in our astral state.

 

Most of the religion (regardless of which that religion is) deals with

our physical being and tries to explain the rationale and relationship

of our physical state of existence and our relationship to the cosmos.

It is only a very small part of our philosophical research that is

centred entirely on the soul and it's relationship to the greater

cosmos. Personally, I have done most of my research only in Hinduism

and frankly it is not easy going because of the symbolism embodied into

our religion.

 

Now there are many-many explanations provided in all religions as to who

ought to be placed as the supreme among the supreme. The only

explanation that can convince a person is the explanation that has roots

both in the religion that the person follows and the social up-bringing

the person has had. To claim that one form of "God" is better than the

other is simply for someone somewhere to be able to financially benefit

from these divisions.

 

What we ought to strive to achieve is a balance in development both in

physical as well as astral plane. The feeling of being overwhelmed with

the Karma only occurs when the two planes of existence are not in the

state of balance and harmony. I can say that in my humble experience of

wearing the Holy beads of Rudraksha, it helps in achieving the balance

in the two states of our existence. I could not say that the Holy beads

helped me gain or lose physically/materially in any aspect of life, but

they most certainly helped clarify a lot that was happening around me

and helped me understand and appreciate life for what it is rather than

any help in gaining or losing anything.

 

Remember answers are never out there for the questions that are arising

from within. We all have to do some soul-searching sometimes as to

where the true answers are lying as well as sometimes more precisely as

to what the true questions are.

(learned ones):

 

"The Supreme Being is the Eternal Truth beyond description, yet revealed

to Sages.

The Supreme can be He or She or even Artha- naareeswar.

IT is not limited by space, time form and natural forces.

IT is the creator of all the natural forces, qualities, attributes,

limitations and yet IT is beyond all those.

IT is all pervasive, Omnipresent, Nameless yet every conceivable there

was and is.

IT is the cause of all the Creation, all that we see, all that we do not

see, Pasupathi, Lord of every living thing and is present as both

animate and inanimate.

IT is the sun, moon, planets, stars and all the five elements.

IT is the soul Jeevathma and Paramathma.

IT sustains and controls IT's own creation and finally assimilates.

IT is ParaBrahma, IT is Parameshwara.

IT is MahaVishnu, Naarayana and IT is MahaShakthi.

IT is not born, IT is eternel and will be there when everything else is

not there.

IT is divine yet accessible to a devotee."

Who or which diety is the greatest, who is the supreame One being of

which all others emanate, who is the most powerful? I have always

been a devote of Krsna for many years, I have also become vegetarian

and pray daily in the morning, i also used to fast every Saturday;

But I have never, I feel, felt any peace or closenes. I have always

had struggles and obsticals in life as well as losses. I have turned

for hope to Rudraksha when I went searching for some truth. I have

simply due to my long term devotion to Lord Krsna. I have now

started fasting on Mondays or Tusdays and am still a Vegitarian. I

have brought (at least more than 2 months ago) a Mala from NeetaJi

in Gold of 3, 7, 10, 12, 14 mukhi beads, i feel i should have

included 8 (as suggested by Neeta Ji)and 11 mukhi beads as I have

not seen marked improvements. However, I remember my trip to India

and a good fellow man said that Shiva was the supreme being. I

didn't take it to mind, but now I wonder and am somewhat

perplexed!!?? There seems to be equal devotees of Shiva as there are

Rama or Krsna. Can someone please shed some light on this complex

and, i feel, deep enquiry. I seem to be now moving to Praying to

Shiva now as well as Krsna... what do I do??? Please send point me

in the right direction.
