Left hand is for incoming karma and right hand for outgoing karma. Emerald has a much higher vibratory rate than the Jyotish equivalents of jade, peridot and tourmaline. Emerald is for Mercury (for facilitating communication and a reminder to choose for the Stillness; for the throat chakra, mastery of desire) and Aquamarine, as all blue stones (sapphire, lapis) is for Saturn (tamasic, turning inward, the essence of Ahimsa, ruthless compassion, not recommended for people who have any self-worth issues).
