Namaste Celeste,

Absolutely agree with Arjunaji....!

I can't remember the traditional references but simply put:

-------------------------

The ring finger (Sun finger) should touch the thumb (Venus) and

rotate the beads with the middle finger (Shani). The index finger

and little finger will then stick out in the pose of a Mudra.

To draw blessings, rotate the mala inwards.

To banish negativity or be rid of something, rotate the mala

outwards.

Sadhus, ascetics, aghoris, fakirs, certain classical Tantric and

Natha lineages use the thumb and index finger for rotating beads but

humbly my 2 dimes' worth is: Do not attempt this unless

traditionally initiated accordingly.

Om Namah Shivaya

depending on their tradition and the results for which the

meditate. I don't have the reference at the office that describes

the rationale for each. Many suggest that you meditate with the

mala going over the middle and ring fingers and not touching the

first or little finger. I will see if I can find the reference over

the weekend and email you the details on Monday.

hours after I posted my question. How wonderful. Thank you so much

for your response, I feel relieved. I should know that it is best to

trust one's instinct, I have a good relationship with my beads and I

try to do what I feel is right. Maybe you can answer another

question for me: why does on perform jap with the third finger and

thumb of the right hand only? Thanks again, and many blessings,
