Rudraksha and the Sea?

Namaste Allen,

Good to see you again! Warmest welcome back!!!!! Not a mundane

question at all and one that certainly hasn't come up till now :))

What a coincidence that a lady rang me exactly the same day you

posted your message here. She was swimming in the sea and lost her

mala - somehow it came off and could not be retrieved.

For obvious practical reasons, it is not advisable to wear malas or

bracelets while swimming whether in pools or the ocean. Chlorine

wouldn't be all that harmful unless the swimming pool uses strong

doses of it.

Saline levels differ from location to location, just as temperatures

in all oceans on earth are different. Some are warmer, others are

cooler or cold. Two dimes' worth here: Wouldn't recommend that malas

be worn when taking a dip or having a swim in the ocean as saline

content may reduce the lustre of the beads and fittings such as

silver caps, spacers, etc. Again for practical reasons, you will

find that after a dip in the sea, maintenance is required such as

washing in fresh water, letting the beads dry naturally and then

oiling them before wearing again. Regular and conscientious

maintenance of rudraksha beads preserve them in good condition and

can be handed down the generations.

Om Namah Shivaya
