Guest guest
Hello all, I would like to know how to focus on Lord Shiv when chanting the "Om Namah Shivay" mantra. I do this japa with the mala in a prayer bag everyday, using only my thumb and the third figer to move through the beads. But the issue i am faced is not the pronunciation or the method , I feel that I get distracted with various thoughts. Thoughts of daily chores, things that I have to complete, things that have been bothering me and something new thoughts that just emerge in my mind. Its very rare that I go through the whole mala japa without getting any other thought than Shiva. I always start my prayers thinking I will not let this happen this time but never end with the success that I had planned. How to focus the mind to think of him and him alone when chanting Lord Shiva's mantra. I know it may be a question for the meditation forum but since so many on this forum are into serious sadhana, I seek answers and advise from all the learned ones here. I am sure there are others like me who started off being in my situation but have mastered the art of focusing on Shiva. How can I be helpled. Please advise. Guest guest
Dear friend, You might want to try visualizing the image of Shiva in the heart center or at the level of the third eye. Find a picture or image that you like and concentrate on that. Also know that propitiating she Ganesh first may help. It also helps to be regular in you place and time of meditation. Guest guest
Dear frens, With permissions from all my elder brothers and sister, i wish to say a few things that might help this sister. I had used these methods and it has worked for many frens. I sure this will be useful to u and to those who r beginners like me : 1. The nadi's should be cleared. That is take deep breaths from with the other closed and vice versa. This could be done for may be 6 times each side. 2. Just capture the image of Lord Siva and bring this image to u and place it to the heart region or forehead which ever u feel comfortable with. Doing the 1st step would have relaxed u and would have calmed the mind. 3. Step two slowly with practise eliminates u from the materialistic aspects. Hope i used the correct word. 4.In this stage would be the ideal stage whereby u can do Mantra japa with visualisation and reap , trust me it will reap wonderful and fruitful. Pls do this and revert back to give your views. May Sister Simone could further educate us on this... Aum Namah Sivaya Sivaya Namah AUMMMMMM.... Guest guest
Yes I do agree with Arya, that thoughts should be left alone. We MUST not struggle to keep off, this will only aggravate the situation and creates a scene of TUG OF WAR of the thoughts. Guest guest
Namaste Rinkuji, May God bless you in all your spiritual endeavor. Doing japa is way of engaging the mind. Constant japa will help calm the mind. But if you want to have a thoughtless state, you need to be in a deep state of meditation what some call as Thuriya state. The witness state. Enlightened state. There is no point in fighting the thoughts. The more you fight, the more it well be restless and you will be constantly engaged and occupied with the very thought of controlling the mind and thoughts. Just be aware of your thoughts. The chain will end there. Then again after sometime there will be another thought coming in...when the chain starts to form become aware.... By constant pratice you will learn to be aware of your thoughts.. It has been said " Man on his own can not make it to enlightenment" It has to be given to him. There is one Avatar for enlightenement in southern part of India known as Varedhepaleyam. He can give you enlightenment. You can experience the thoughtless state you are aspiring for. Visit the site: www.livinginjoy.com or www.experiencefestival.com or www.trueawakening.com You can learn more about this avatar. Pranams.
