Hello there

 

My understanding is as follows...........

It depends upon what you are doing and who you are worshipping. If it

is straight-forward lighting up of the (jyoti) to all the deities/gurus,

then it is the desi ghee which is considered more auspicious as this is

derived from the cow's milk and as cow is considered to be the

incarnation of "Kamdhenu", the ghee is the best to light.

 

However there are a number of times when it is the mustard oil that is

the considered more appropriate to use.

 

Some of these occasions are as follows:

 

- performing MahaLakshami Puja

- performing Shani puja

- performing Astra/shastra puja - this includes the woship of weapons

and tools alike.

home.

Deshi Ghee or Mustard oil.
