Guest guest
Salutations Sri DDji, My very humble method is as in 'Triyam" sound; as in Om Triyambhakam yajamahey...etc.etc. (Mahamrityunjaya Mantra). In English 'tri' is pronounced as 'try' as in "Triangle". In Sanskrit its pronounced similar to "tree". In some Sankrit letters, the letter "h" is silent. In English "yam" is pronounced like 'yem'. In Sanskrit, it sounds more like "Yum". Vashyam is pronounced in one breath: va-shyam right at once without pausing. We must be getting cross-wires ) Shyam and Shiam are sounds to demonstrate phoenetics. They are not from Devanagri script. Om Namah Shivaya Simone , AumShiningLotus@a... wrote: > Dear Simone > > we are both basicly on same track her except that this is kind of confusing > > main context of sentence her says Va-shyam or Va- shiam > > these are two dinstinctly different sounds so I dont understand how either of > the two could be used if the word is Vash-yam.........I have not seen shiam > in any of this mantra so am respectfully questioning > > is not spelled iam in devanagari so was wondering where you found this > reference.....in devanagari it is spelled phonetically Vaash and last part of word > is simply yam > > what do you think > > DD > > In a message dated 1/26/2005 6:27:29 PM Pacific Standard Time, > syzenith writes: > >> > > > Namaste Bik, > > > > Pronounce as: > > > > Va---shyam (as is "va--shi--am"); note the "am" is as in "Amla" > > fruit.
