Excellent question you've asked. It depends on how the choices come

about; examples below:

 

a) Your guru decides you need Left Trunk Ganapati. A true chela

never questions the authority or decision of a genuine guru as

amongst other things, the sincere chela surrenders himself/herself

at the Lotus Feet of the Guru who is akin to "God". Its like laying

your soul and all its past karmas, present karmas and problems bare

in the hands of God who decides as He/She sees appropriate.

 

b) Some folks are attracted to either the Right or Left Trunked

Ganapati. He/she then goes with their instinct or intuition in

making the selection of which Murti to take home and worship. If

the person does not know the difference and have not been initiated

for intense sadhana for Left Trunked Ganapati, he/she is absolved

from the "lessons" that the Left Trunked Lord may dish out. Hence

when the layman or beginner chants Ganapati's mantra, either Saguna

or Beeja, he/she usually gets the blessings of both, and eventually

gets to see fortuitous outcomes or relief from their problems.

 

c) Paragraph "B" also applies to those who are Advaita-inclined and

other practitioners such as Tantrikas who do not see "Duality".
