Hi Cyra,

Generally before one worships or tries to connect with other

deities, Lord Ganesha is first invoked or worshipped. Unless you

are Natha, Tantrika or Aghori, etc..,, the aforementioned rule of

thumb applies.

Hence (again generally according to basic Sanatana Dharma or

Hinduism as its commonly termed; Sanatana Dharma is not a religion

but rather, A Way of Life; The Divine Path; various definitions of

the word Sanatana Dharma):

Shree Ganapati's statue should be placed near the front door.

Family, friends, visitors, etc. have to get past Lord Ganapati

before entering the living room, etc. If they come with good

intentions, Ganapati blesses them. If they come with negative

vibes, Shree Ganapati deflects those vibes as the Remover of

Obtacles.

Beloved Ganapati's Murti can also be placed in the home shrine or in

the Puja Room. Many traditional Indians reserve a room in the home

for Puja only. Nothing else. This is their Sacred Sanctuary, their

private temple where some also find "the temple within" (i.e. within

the soul, the temple that is innate in all beings).

All Ganapati's murtis are Auspicious, whether they have trunks

curved to the right or to the left. Generally it is known that the

Right Trunked Ganapati Murti is easier to please, placate and

worship. This murti is more inclined to be "indulgent" to devotees.

The Left Trunk Ganapati Murti is a little more complex to worship

but when done with discipline and devotion over long years, the

blessings finally gained are well worth all the hassles. Blessings

include His Darshan following one everywhere one goes.

You see, the Left Trunked Lord is known to put obstacles in the

petitioner's path for long years so that he/she may learn difficult

lessons, experience traumas and simultaneous problems all at once

that severely tests one's resources and as a result, either make or

break the worshipper's resolve whether to continue worshipping Him

with the Left Trunk.

The sincere and disciplined devotee lays all troubles at the Divine

Feet of the Left Trunk Lord, surrenders his/her soul and lets Him

mould him/her as He pleases.

This level of unfailing bhakti always eventually results in a sign

that only the bhakta will recognise one day when Left-Trunked

Ganapati relents when He sees that the devotee has, despite all

sufferings, managed to come out of the long, dark tunnel into the

light.

It is a very humbling experience for those who have undergone

intense worship of the Left-Trunked Ganapati. Once passed through

this, His Darshan is bestowed along with boons and unexpected good

luck in endeavors.

Of course when the bhakta mis-uses or abuses the blessings gained,

he/she then goes back to square one with the Left-Trunked Lord,

depending on what the person has done to "de-merit"

himself/herself. Amongst other things, Lord Ganesha is Keeper of

the Akashic Records :))

Please note that I can only speak for myself in regards the worship

of Left-Trunked Ganapati but not for others. Each of us have

different past life karmas and rnanubandhanas as well as karmas

created duringt this lifetime, The Keeper of Akashic Records dishes

out what He sees as appropriate for each individual. He is never

unfair though.

However, from the viewpoint of Non-Duality, a bhakta may regard both

Left-Trunked and Right-Trunked Ganapati Murtis as "One and the

Same". In this perspective, the bhakta is less likely to receive

hard knocks but rather gain blessings as he/she is innocently

ignorant of the difference between Right or Left-Trunked Ganapati

Murtis. In earthly existence, sometimes it pays to be ignorant :)

As for Simone, i don't know if it was good fortune or ill luck that

my first MahaGyanaGuru started stooopid me on the Left-Trunk Murti.

Things for approximately 18 years were all untold hardships, riches

to rags, family fortunes gone down the drain, immediate family

members demised one after another, more rags, more poverty, then it

got better, then it got worse again..... Over and over like a broken

record the story replayed itself in different locations and under

different circumstances.

All were roller-coasters along the way, big ups and hefty downs.

Humungous ebbs and flows. But the night when my humble altar fired

up to the ceiling, smoke, flames and all, smoke alarms screaming

away, buckets of water thrown at the altar, etc., would you believe

afterwards, that everything was wet except Left-Trunked Ganapati's

Murti.

Miraculously nothing was burnt either. Only the sides of the altar

were singed black by the smoke. In flashes, there were white dhotis

running around the apartment. These were Lord Ganesha's Ganas, an

indication that His Darshan was received at last. (It is a fact

that many disciplined bhaktas actually get a glimpse pf Lord

Ganapati's ganas one way or another.)

Ironical that the celibate South Indian MahaGyanaGuruji's birth name

started with the letters : "Gana". I am forbidden to mention or

spell the rest of his name, to protect the privacy of his surviving

relatives and their families as well as respect his wishes to remain

anonymous.

And....... I had to get past Lord Ganapati before reaching His

Father, Lord Shiva and Rudraksha. Afterwards, the jigsaw puzzle

pieced itself together and further enhanced my very limited

understanding of things. Each day continues to bring new lessons

and challenges but never obstacles. All problems contain the seeds

of their own solutions :)) This is one of the lessons learnt too.

Just a stupid question really I am sure, but I am a little confused hence.....

When you say left hand and right hand turned trunk, do you judge that based upon

the left and right hands of the picture or the devotee's left and right hands

standing in front of the picture.

Kind regards

Allow me to give my 2 piece worth of knowledge which

is just heresay. I believe the right hand side trunks

Ganpatis are rare because legend has it that after the

craftsman made it he died. Now this is just an old

legend - Simoneji may correct me on that. I am just an

ordinary fool whose knowledge is either limited or

heresay.
