Guest guest
Dear Simone, Thanks for the kind words, but better save your dandavat-pranams for the akincan-sadhus - who care nothing about a clod of dirt or a 100 ct diamond. For the paramahansas... these are equally useless. (Well, I guess he could use the diamond to break open the clod of dirt!?) Such saints deserve praise, not attached materialists like my self. But... to the Subject of Gems being heated or natural. There is only one verse (to my knowledge) in all Vedic literatures that mentions heating of gems. That is the blue sapphire chapter of Sri Garuda Puranam. Years ago I thought that only applied to blue sapphires, but a closer look at the sloka shows the word, kaschana, i.e., ALL types of gems (should not be burned). Now that is pretty slim pickings as far as Vedic authorty goes... i.e., just ONE sloka, in all Vedic literatures. Very weak indeed. In fact, this is really mostly an issue involving corundum, rubies and sapphires, which are almost ALL heated right at the mines now. So out of the nine gems, the non heated stones are, diamond, natural pearl, red coral, hessonite, cat's eye, and emerald. That just leaves yellow and blue sapphires, and rubies as the problem. Burned rubies can be replaced with Unburned red spinel, burned blue sapphire can substitute indicolite (careful: tourmaline is also sometimes burned), and to replace burned yellow sapphires can use natural yellow tourmaline or yellow beryl (citrine is ALWAYS heated). It's a tough call, and I won't personally use a gem which has been burned... out of fear! But lots of people use TOP QUALITY gems which may have been heated yet those people prosper if the gem is good for them. So it is really a personal choice thing. Hope this helps, R- --- Simone <syzenith wrote: > Prostrations at your Divine Feet Sri Richardji, > > Sincere thanx for your kind darshan too! Guest guest
Prostrations Sri Richardji, Words cannot express my appreciation of your humility and generous words. Namaste. I greet the Divine in you. Prostrations, Sri Sir Kali Baba lives through you. You are him, he is you. For all the materialist stuff you have been surrounded with and by, the royalty, noble and serioulsy wealthy & well-placed persons in your orbit who are graced by Lord Kuber, I do not look at these. Humbly I look within you and some of the charitable deeds you'd done. I do not care for your detractors who are simply envious as they cannot beat you ))) Each individual stands on their own merits. Unfortunately outside India and the Himalayas, there is no support nor sustenance systems for sadhus, sannyasi and other related ascetics. In Australia for example, if one were to hike up the Kimberleys and live in a cave, there will be authorities saying its illegal, slamming you with an eviction order, you need paperwork, you need permission from local council, rangers, community elders (Aboriginal), etc. etc. And they certainly won't trudge up the mountain on horses, donkeys (no yaks here) or fly a helicopter up with supplies And if lucky and all falls into place, one next then becomes vulnerable to being "sung to death" by certain factions with tribal practices and tribal laws How can sadhus at heart and in soul survive without first serving himself/herself before being able to serve others through their works? Hence we are required to make a living. Some succeed, some struggle very hard to keep head above water, some don't make it, many can't cut it. Your magnificent self, Sri Richardji, if you had your way perhaps, you wouldn't care between a pinch of dirt or a $10 million dollar gem. Hence I salute your noble efforts in using the gem measured by monetary means to serve "the dirt" (which is actually pure) much like using the "left" to serve the "right" ) God's will, Sri Sri Kali Baba's will and all. Thus, you deserve every accolade and all dandavat-pranaams. 95% cannot hold a candle to you. Ommmm. (I kick myself very hard for not seeking your darshan in Bangkok in the 1980's when I was there and you were probably a few years back from Nepal.. I don't remember exact year, all too long ago). Lol.....!! You are most succinct. In resonance with you about the slim pickings. To mind, there is something called "Mani- something" ancient text that may contain a bit more though not much more If I come across it at some point, will let you know. My stuff is all over the place and its like a bombshelter here..... Yep, corumdum, rubies and sapphires are mostly heated at mines these days but there are some exceptions too, takes humungous effort to source unheated and untreated for these ones. Natural specimens do exist in India, whatever their native origins and Rudra Centre has them as I am sure you do too. Natural Indian rubies and Burmese rubies for example. Much respect and agree with your valuable insights regarding gems in the rest of your kind message. For some weird reason, my humble inclination is towards yellow topaz as opposed to citrine as substitute for yellow sapphire. Also agree regarding the use of high- end quality gems (serious carats and funds) if an individual can afford them, that they work regardless of heated or natural, *only* if the gem is prescribed to be right for them. In low carats, preferably natural. In semiprecious, preferably natural with carats increased too. What do you think? Would love to hear your thoughts when you next have time. Many thanks.
