Hello,

I have a lovely mala of large mukhi's from #3 to 13, that has small 5 mukhi

beads and pearls around the neckline. This area has gotten soiled due to

sweat, I expect. The beads have darkened and look soiled. I have read where

they can be soaked in liquid soap and water. However, because of the pearls, I

want to ask exactly what kind of soap and the proper method. Dish soap?

Lingerie soap? Both of these would be much gentler than laundry soap. How

long leave in the solution?

Then I have read that one should oil the beads.....jojoba, sesame, etc.

Because of the pearls....any suggestions?

Thank you,

Seline

Your mala sounds STUNNING! Extar lunar energy, form the pearls!

You'll prolly get a few different suggestions, to choose from among. <g> At

least, I

hope so. :-)

First.. rudraksha beads DO darken with wear. That's natural and, I think,

desireable.

(mine have turned a beautiful chocolate brown) That doesn't necessarily mean

they

are soiled.

But, that being said.. I don't clean my beads with soap. I use jojoba oil and a

soft

toothbrush. Others DO start with mild soap. Some use a weak dish soap solution.

If

you use a toothbrush, you won't have to soak the beads to get any dirt off.

DON'T use a toothbrush on the pearls. BUT, since pearls improve their appearance

with skins oils, and jojoba is close in composition to skin oil.. I don't think

jojoba will

hurt the pearls.

Since we have a famous gemologist on board... he can prolly advise you better,

though. :-)

Thanks a bunch! Kari
