It largely depends on one's karmas and rnanubandhanas from preceeding births and current circumstances, taking into consideration the karmas that may or may not have been accrued in years past during this lifetime. For those who experience crisis when 3/4 through with their very first 40-day sadhana, it is an auspicious signpost. By perservering and riding the "storm", going with the flow and continuing the sadhana right up to 40 days helps remove certain "bonds and debts from the past". This paves the way for one to "be present here now" and subsequently move forward to the future with mindfulness and perhaps even wisdom. Part and parcel of growth and evolution..... In my case, I was severely ill although doctors said there was nothing wrong with me at the time. It was like a purging exercise of the spiritual and physical type, difficult to explain. Later in the process, there was this "knowing" when I would get well and never look back.
