Guest guest
Dear Group members, I have a Rudraksha Mala which I purchased from Rudra Centre Mumbai India. This is custom made mala according to my needs in Red thread. I have been wearing it since last week of December 2003 and is wearing it on every day around 10 hrs daily. I have cleaned it in water with the help of brush and soaked in oilive oil twice in this approximately 4 months course of time. Now since last 10 days I am facing the problem that the red thread is losing its strength due to wear and tear. One of the ends where there is a last Holy Rudraksha bead where there is a lot of thread twisted on the cord has opened thereby exposing the inner thin thread. It appears that the thread may break any day. So Can any body help me out in restringing the mala. Can any body in the group tell me the requirements of making a mala ,the tools and materials required and where it can be found in Delhi India and the stringing technique. In order to make the mala stronger can we take the copper wire used in winding of motors which is insulated? If yes, then what gauge should be used for maximum strength and whether it should be used as it is or insulation has to be removed. Pls guide. Looking forward to your early reply. Regards and Praanams D.Mehtani
Guest guest
I use either 20 gauge wire (no insulation), or medium to heavy weight beading cable, such as tiger tail or accuflex. Tools are wire cutters. Crimp pliers (with a crimp bead), to seal the ends of the wire, if you use beading cable. Beading cable is a better choice for long malas, because it's not stiff like long wire, You might want to use tiny spacer or spatik beads between the rudraksham, to keep them from rubbing. Thanks, much! Guest guest
Dear Mr. Mehtani, I have used another technique which I find is good and easy too. I use fishing line (Abu Garcia type, of transparent plastic) that you can get from fishing stores or big department stores. I do not make knots between the beads as it is done with string malas. The fishing line is durable and there is no need for any other instruments. I wear my mala all the time and the fishing line has not deteriorated. You only have to make very strong knots and knot them many times. This way it does not come loose. May you enjoy making your Mala!
