I have seen a lot of Western devotees/Vedantists using this shell as Laxmi-conch. BUT, they are NOT Shank-family. All shell specialists know the difference. You have all seen a normal, smooth, white conch shell used in puja, right? Well THAT kind of conch-shell, when right sided (left-sided by western system) is a real Laxmi-conch. You cannot buy a real Laxmi-Conch for One Million Dollars, unless you can get the British Museum of Natural History, or Sri PashupatiNathji Museum to sell you theirs...REAL THING: priceless. A real Laxmi conch should be used to worship Lord Vishnu, particularly to bath a Salagram-shila. Anyone with a Laxmi-conch will be automatically wealthy, so who would sell one? If pukka Laxmi-shank is used in worship of Lord Narayana then "Bhakti" results (along with wealth). Lord Krishna's conch, Panchanjanya" is Laxmi-shank, and He uses it to blow sound. Lord Vishnu (4 arms) always carries a Laxmi-conch. For more info and a pic click http://www.p-g-a.org/lakshmi-shank.html Hope this helps Om svasti-astu Richard Shaw-Brown, PG ______________________ Messenger - Communicate instantly..."Ping" your friends today! Guest guest
Dear Saravanan, Right Handed Conch shell represents Sri Mahalakshmi swaroopa, thats why its used for performing purusha suktha abhisheka. Conch shell is one of the ormament of Sri Mahavishnu, I think you might have heard of the story of Druva, Druva the small kid of 7 yrs old prayed Sri Hari , then Sri Hari just touched his cheeks with conch shell , at the moment druva felt that like mother is touching and asking him to get up from sleep. So conch shell is used for abhishekams, and even for pooja .Here is Mantra to perform pooja to Conch shell: PanchaJanya Mathadwana dwastha paathaka sanchaya Thrahinam paapinaam ghoram Samsaararnava paathinam Panchajanya is a Shell name Of Sri Krishna in Mahabharatha, so performing sanka pooja is a very big saadana in life to achieve moksha.
