Hindus who accept fully embrace the authority of the Vedas such as

Brahmins, the priestly caste, observe the Vedas and the rituals

therein very strictly. Those from Tantric Lineages do not

necessarily follow all the Vedas. There many tantrikas who worship

God as Shiva Shakti. Devi, the Supreme Mother, Maa Kali in all Her

Forms or one of the forms of the 10 MahaVidyas, etc.

 

There are also some tantrikas who actually welcome menstrual women

to pujas and other gatherings as they consider all women to be

Shakti. Simply put, mature (as in spiritually advancing) tantrikas

do not see "Duality", they see all as one and one in all. Again to

put in simple terms, the ultimate Tantra is the difference

between "Aversion" and "Non-Aversion".

 

Say for example a devotee is praying to Maa to remove a horrid

situation and Maa is undergoing menstruation for a few days. Would

Maa say "Hang on for 7 days and wait, I'm busy having menses and its

impure, unholy and against the rules of the Gods". In reply to

this, orthodox Hindus may say "Its a sin to do puja during menses

and a woman who does this will be damned in hell, etc, etc. etc."

(something along those lines..) When coming across someone who says

this, the impression is that they adhere only to the Vedas and have

not gone outside Vedic practices due to lineage, family background,

caste, guru instruction, etc.etc. etc..

 

There would perhaps also be those in our midst who are advanced

tantric practitioners who might have been initiated in the Right

Hand path of Tantra. And those who received initiation into the

Left Hand. Very few are initiated into the Left Hand unless their

Preceptor knows they are truly ready and will put knowledge to Good

Use for Humankind, not for self-serving reasons. Perhaps you may

have heard of the term "Using the Left Hand to Serve the Right

Hand".. Then there is a common belief in some circles that say "At

the end of it all, Tantra is a game of life and death" when dealing

with terrible severities and adversities where the person is tested

and have to decide what action to take. This also forms part of a

limb within ultimate Tantra, the type in the Twilight zone that is

not described in books and only via guru transmition.

 

You have put it very well that menses is part of the phenomena of

mammals. Yes, those who see Atma as God does not allow

physical "impurity" to affect. You have said it well "Atma is beyond

the genders". However with newbies who are learning about Hinduism

who come from non-Hindu backgrounds, many need to study the Vedas

before going further to discover the meaning of Atma, and only if

they are inclined to do so. Many prefer to stay within the confines

of a religion they adopt. Restriction and non-restriction are two

sides of the same fabric but it is up to the individual to decide

which side they prefer to cloth themselves in, i.e. each to their

own cup of tea )))
