I have seen in the past month that everybody writes their experiences ...nobody has mentioned anything like a Guru, etc. without whom you can't progress much also as per the scriptures reading mantras from books is useless...it has to be learnt from a learned person. To give an example, as DDji had rightly pointed out that Sanskrit is not just words each word has so many meanings...chanting of beeja mantras are rampant...it is okay if the person knows the grammer part and understands the beeja mantra...to cite an example the beeja mantra "kring" has four distrinct sounds and each has a meaning.. ka = kali, ra= brahma, e= mahamaya and the ng (called anuswar in sanskrit) = dukha-haran so the beeja mantra kring means "hey mahamaya kali, the one who has brahma shakti, get rid of problems"..... anyway before sitting down for japa (to be effective) there are lot of things to be done, which in a few days will take a few mins, like Panchshudhhi - Atma-suddhi, sthan-suddhi, mantra-suddhi, article - suddhi and Deva-suddhi....it goes on and I am not a teacher but a student who takes guidance from his gurudev... As I said earlier reading mantra from books described as follows: "Pustake Likhitanna mantraanavalokya japet tu yaha sa jeevanneva chandalo mataha swa chabhijaayate" if a person does not know ista dhyan, kulluka....then he / she is wasting time in japa... perhaps this is the reason that DD said he is still learning though he is highly learned... Before mantra japa kulluka should be performed and should be seated on one's head... for example the kulluka for Lord Shiva is "Om Hrom"....what is the meaning of these? Well I really don't have time to explain.... one has to go far deep, backwards...! When I sit for japa as per the time given by gurudev... within 30-40 repeatation I can see Gandharvas moving around playfully... leave aside japa of 4-16 mala (each mala has 108 beads).... if one is performing japa properly he / she will feel fresh after even 16 malas of japa, in my case I can see the halo of anyone or object for about 30 mins or so...before or during japa one should be so pure that even sneezing, gulping of saliva, etc. is not allowed... it is better to stop and start again... Anyway, I have probably written too much for my own good.... Jai Maa Kaali! Simone <syzenith wrote: Namaste and Pranaams Jamini, Thank you for your highly esteemed opinions. Would appreciate if you would suggest ways to test rudraksha if you happen to know. It would be wonderful if you could educate us here. We sincerely would love to learn. Would also appreciate if you refrain from assuming that people being botanists being not likely to be devotees. This is a very broad statement of assumption. In India alone, there are many botanists who are also devoted to Lord Shiva as well as other deities. Once again, thank you for your views.
