Namaste & good morning,

It may have already been answered, if so I apologize. The 18th is Maha

Shivaratri, does it start at sunset on the 17th until sunset of the

18th or is it starting on the sunset of the 18th?

Thanks & may you have a blessed & beautiful day

Soma

Namaskar Somaji:

To the best of my knowledge...

Ratri means Night.

Shiva Ratri is The Night of Lord Shiva.

Most practices and focus of energies are on the evening of the 18th.

I have attended celebrations where there have been activities

throughout the day, which this year would be all day the 18th.

Have also been to ashrams where there were saptahs, which is

continuous chanting of Om Namah Shivaya all night...(this year would

be the 18th)

Was quite a way to start the day and then go ride the New York City

Subway to work the following morning !!!

Take Care.

Namaste Kantiji & thank you,

I would not have asked myself (& the list) this if it werent for my interfaith

calander. On the bottom it reads that "...some observences start at sundown

before the date indicated" so my virgo brain went nuts, hehehe, gotta get it

right you know. :)

Another question Ms. Kantiji, do you know of any local place that may carry some

devotional Shiva music? I have some, but I want to hear bhajans and songs,

mantras and chants all night.

Brightest blessings

Soma

Dear Somaji:

There is a place in Clayton called The Living Insight Center.

They used to have a wonderful version of Om Namah Shivaya.

Also Healing Arts Center on Big Bend in Maplewood may have something.

There is a Vedanta Society on Skinker across from the park that has a

bookstore. They may have tapes and CD's.

Don't have phone numbers.

You also would have time to Order one of Krishna Das's tapes from

amazon.com..he totally rules ...if you have never heard him, its a

real treat to hear him !!

Have fun.
