Significance of Right hand Conch

Namaste Karuji,

If you feel a strong calling to use the Left-hand conch shell in

your possession, by all means follow your instincts. It is probably

the Inner Guru, Ishwara or your Ishta Devata guiding you, though

sometimes when we experience this sort of thing, we don't

necessarily know or "recognise" the signs consciously. Hope this

helps.

Hari Om

Shells from north of the equator

are left handed

those grown south of the equator

are right handed

I found mine on the northern coast of Virginia Beach

it is left handed

I feel it is more the intent that rules here

when I can afford a large white right handed

I will aquire one

and also a blowing conch

but until then I will use my left handed one

this object conveys Tulasi Devi's devotion to her demon husband

and her outrage at being raped by Vishnu

the Shanka is on the alter to convey this devotion

for each of us is God's Bride

and the Shanka is our devotion to our beloved

it is the intent my beloved

that is the signature of faith

God Bless You

True conchs have a feature called a stromboid notch towards the tail. Whelks do

not. Some shells that are normally right-handed such as the whelk have the

unusual variation of being left handed and so are prized by collectors. The

same is true for conchs that are normally left-handed, a few a sprites, i.e.

variants and are right-handed.
