Guest guest
Dear Garyji saw the statue mentioned however is really not possible to tell if this is made of ivory........anything made of ivory that is advertised gets the attention of the US Fish and Wildlife Service for papers and authentication and the price for items like this doesnt normally start at $1 so am thinking the person who is selling this really doesnt know what this is made of......only a thought considering what is seen Thanks and Take Care Mitra DharmaDev In a message dated 11/6/2003 8:49:33 AM Pacific Standard Time, dna12 writes: > > , > AumShiningLotus@a... wrote: > > > you sure this is a statue of Goddess Lakshmi or could it be a statue > from > > Chinese carveing origin....and Chinese Deity..........are you sure > it it elephant > <snip> > > > I found it on ebay here: > > http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem

Thank you. I intuitively feel that it is ivory, and cetainly not a modern contemporary piece. I would be most gratified if anyone has any knowledge of this particular form of Lakshmi created in some other material, that I might add that murti to the other sacred objects on my altar. Guest guest
She's very pretty, but she looks more like Lady Parvati, to me. I wonder if the seller really knows the composition? She could be made of a composite-- not ivory of any kind. One problem with eBay... the sellers aren't always knowledgeable re: what they are selling. I have a silver Lady Laxmi/Lord Ganesha idol that was blessed for me during Diwali, a year ago. You might, as previously suggested, consider going with parad, or silver, or quartz. I am advised that quartz resonates with Her particularly well. Guest guest
The quality of the craftmanship leads me to believe that it could be a genuine antique(> 60-70 years < 1500 years)or a really good fake. The Vaishnavite emblems conch and discus would indicate Lakshmi. There is no way of telling whether it is real ivory or not just by looking at a web picture but it is a beautiful piece.
