Its leaves are simple serrulate and petiolate. Flowers are hermaphrodite found in axillary racemoses about 12mm in diameter and white in color. The flowering takes place in the rainy season and fruits are found in months of November and December. The fruit is a drupe, globose, purple, tubercled, grooved and distributed in subtropical regions. They are found in Himalayas, Nepal, India, Java and Indonesia. Apart from Sanctity attached to them they do have medicinal value as well which runs as follows The most common species of them are six in number 1. Eleaocarpus floribundus Infusion of bark and leaves used as mouth wash for inflamed gums 2. E giganitrus and E sphaericus The fruit is used in the diseases of head and epileptic fits. 3. E oblongus Fruit is used in emetic and also in rheumatism, pneumonia, ulcers, leprosy, dropsy and piles 4. E petiolatus Juice of leaves is used in malaria as an application in fever 5. E serratus Leaves used in rheumatism. Antidote to poison. Fruit used in dysentery and diarrhorea. The fruit has citric acid, its leaves contain Vitamin C and seeds a fixed oil 6. E tuberculatus Decoction of the bark is used as remedy for rheumatism, indigestion and biliousness. Nuts used as remedy for rheumatism, typhoid fever and epilepsy. All kinds of Rudraksa are commonly used in the Ayurvedic Medicines. When anyone suffers from Small Pox or Chicken Pox the seed or fruit is rubbed on a clean stone and the paste is given to the patient to eat. It is also helpful for the prevention of poxes.
