Guest guest
While I can't answer based on scriptural references I can tell you what I think. I think not to worry too much about taboos since even yogis must answer call of nature and where are sannyassin going to place their beads say during melas? People will trample their beads and steal them so they must therefore wear them at all times. I believe the point is to not wear the beads at times and places where the pranas are not directed upwards. It is not that it is a sin or that one needs to feel remorse or atone but rather that rudraksha are worn mostly by yogis and spiritual aspirants to increase kundalini experience so one wants to associate them with that experience. But as I wear my beads 24/7 I do not worry about when to wear and when not to wear because that makes the experience awkward. I merely dont wear them during sex. That's it. For me at least. What are some other people's experiences on this? Moreover, if one feels they have sullied their beads they may be soaked in milk with gayatri and mahamritunjaya mantras or om namah shivaya chanted over them. Then rinsed in purified water and a bit of mustard oil rubbed into them and this purifies the samskaras of the beads again. Do not knock them against wood or throw them against wood as some recommend.

Guest guest
Thanks very much for the advice, everyone! Looks like the consensus is people think it doesn't matter too much (or even at all). But since I presume there's no particular benefit in wearing it during the 'taboo' periods, I guess what I'll do is just to take it off if I remember to, but if I don't, I won't worry about it at all. Thanks again! Guest guest
Dear Kirk and Listmembers, Namaste, I would like to ask a few questions as to the procedure of cleansing one's Rudraksha garland if even suspected of being sullied. (1)Can or should one go ahead and clean,in soapy water, the beads if 2 or 3 weeks have passed since the last cleansing before placing the Rudraksha in milk? (2)How long does one apprpropriately soak the beads in milk? (3)If for example one chants "Om Namah Shivaya", should it be a round of 108 or can it be for an extended length if so desired while the beads are soaking? Then, does one remove and rinse the beads? (4) What constitutes purified water? My apologies for being perhaps a bit too detail oriented. Thank you for any comments in advance! Guest guest
I watched "Stigmata" last night again. The movie with Patricia Arquette. It's a great conceit on the subject if one cares to see it as such. - karisprowl Sunday, October 27, 2002 7:19 PM Re: Rudrakshas and Taboos The Tuareg people believe that women are purer and more "magickal" BECAUSE of their "monthly purification process." , "ShiningLotus" <shininglotus@c...> wrote: > Dear KL > > Welcome to the Group My Friend > > To answer why the precautions when wearing > > The different Scriptures of Siva Puran Padma Puran and Srimaddevibhagavat were written at different times reflecting the same and slightly different general rules of conduct as a guide for wearing for those who are new to wearing and for those who wish to reflect on these rules as they wear from generation to generation > > Some of these general rules really do not apply in todays world due to improvement of sanitary and health conditions so we naturally change according to the Age and Society we live in > > Many people have different ideas regarding how Rudraksa are to be worn and that is OK as long as the ideas seem reasonable to the wearer > > Long Malas are usually not worn during sex because they can become tangled however we all know a choker design can be worn that does not tangle > > Although I have seen infomation that it is advised that Rudraksa is not worn during sexual activity I have not seen any infomation regarding the wearing at time of climax when the Kundalini actually moves at speed of light up the spine and through the Sahasrara Chakra > > It is also said that women cannot wear during their time of month due to impurity issues however again they go no further with necessary interpretation.
