Yes, the mala will need to be cleaned and oiled regularly.

The yellow color may have been the saffron use to bless the beads. I would

normally

caution drinking water that had any coloring in it, if I did not know what the

seller put

on the beads. However, I have drunk water in which beads have been immersed from

Rudra Center, without clearing them of the blessing materials.

I cannot explain the tradition of covering the mala or using a utensil, while

doing

japa. perhaps others on this list can explain. I do not enclose or cover my

malas,

while doing japa.

This is another question that others on the list can answer better than I can. I

move

the beads toward myself, using my thumb and my middle finger, without touching

the meru. It appears that different people hold and move the beads different

ways. All

seem to work.

Thanks Kariji for replying so promptly,

From what you said it

appears clearly that you don't use gomukhi bag or any utensil with cloth to

cover the Jaapa Mala while doing Jaapa i.e you do jaapa using your Holy

Rudraksha Mala in the open. Am I right?

While starting to do Jaapa, initially you allow to rest the Meru Bead on your

middle finger and then start doing Jaapa by pulling the first bead adjacent to

the Meru towards yourself or you initially allow the first bead adjacent to

the Meru to rest on your middle finger and start doing Jaapa counting that bead

that is resting on your middle finger.

When doing Jaapa one needs to count the bead after each pull towards our self

after the Mantra chanting or one need not count the bead because it is obvious

that I having a 27+1 Holy Rudraksha Mala starting from first bead adjacent to

the Meru and ending at the last bead just before the Meru have completed the 27

count of Mantra.

Also the first bead to be counted should be same all the time i.e on both side

of the Meru bead there are one adjacent bead each which can be a starting point

for the Jaapa. So the question is that whether any one of the bead as mentioned

above be made the starting bead randomly or the bead which has been made the

starting bead for the first time remains the starting bead for the lifetime.

Thanks and Pranaams

I start from the first bead on either side of the meru bead. It doesn't have to

be the

same bead, forever. As previously stated, I let the beads slip, as I count,

between my

thumb and middle finger. I don't touch the meru bead.

Different techniques are used, when counting prayers, by different people. The

only

important things, in my humble opinion, are:

1) To do at least one round of 108, and

2) To not cross the meru bead.

The point of using a mala is to track the number of mantram, and to make contact

between the beads and the skin, during japa.

Thanks! kari

Namaskar and welcome to the group...........actually you can do this if you wish

however a suggestion would be to keep seperate Beads for Water Therapy........if

you use your other beads for water therapy you would have to clean them first

and then after useing for water therapy your beads would have to be oiled

again........so is really best to get the water therapy beads on the Rudra

Center website www.rudraksha-ratna.com as they are specifically selected for

this use

hope this helps
