Namaste!!! Thanks. That is good stuff about Rahu. I also have Rahu

exalted in Taurus (in 11th) and am now in a Rahu sub-period... So I

always feel friendship with Lord Rahu and he is helpful. I think that

as far as the story of creation and churniing the ocean of milk is

concerned as given in Bhagavat-Puranam is bona fide, and all of the

asuras and devas have mothers. I see Rahu as a heirarchy, and

superbeing all pervading and always influncing the people of earth, for

better or worse, usually Rahu has a reputation for trouble, but if well

placed he can grant boons. As the universe was created in time and will

end in time, so during the duration of mahat-tattva prakash Lord Rahu

is most certainly a deva (not an asura) by the blessings of Lord Vishnu

who begins the whole process by laying down in the casual ocean and

Lord Brahma is born from His navel, and Lord Brahma creates, Lord

Vishnu Preserves, and Lord Shiva (who is God Himself) he destroys. Lord

Shiva is ashutosh, or most easily pleased to give benefit. Lord Vishnu

is the hardest to please and usually His devotees are poor. Somehow

Lord Brahma got a curse on Himself that prevents his worship in India.

Thailand is the only country that openly worships Lord Brahma and the

result is that Thailand is quite nice. Strangely enough, a month ago a

crazy Muslim attacked the most famous Brahma statute in Bangkok, the

Erawan Brahma, with a hammer and broke it. The whole country was in

shock! And now the PM has stepped down. A new Brahma is now being cast

in 9 metals along with bits of the broken statue, and will be

established by HM The King Himself in a month (the original statue,

worshipped there since 1956, was plaster, so it was broken. The Muslim

who broke the Lord Brahma was immediately beaten to death by

bystanders...instant karma. Heavy stuff, we're living in legandary

times here.

 

Lord Rahu has temples here in Thailand dedicated to him as well. Lord

Rahu is a heavy weight god in Thai culture and astrology (which is a

variation of Vedic astrology)

Maybe we can have a discussion in this group regarding the anceint

stories in general and the Legend of Lord Rahu specifically and how it

applies to the Holy Rudraksha

 

Have read a lot of older stories and they seem to be sometimes

convoluted when trying to interprete them........... meaning parts of

stories are left out and the subject matter jumps around to the point

where interpretation is really difficult

 

Take the Legend of Lord Rahu for example

 

The Name of Rahu first appears in the Mahabharata when we read the

story of the churning of the Ocean of Milk in search for theambrosia or

the elixir of immortality know as amrita in Sanskrit.......... so this

story qualifies as one of the Creation Stories

 

Difficulty in interpretation and understanding starts to show when the

story when it is said Lord Siva and all the demons and asuras were

created from Lord Brahmas third eye in anger and then no mention of

Lord Visnu as Lord Visnu till he takes part in defending the Devas

claim to amrita by attacking Lord Rahu..............then later Lord

Rahu prays to Lord Vishnu and is granted SayaGraha and starts his

eternal control on Sun and Moon for exposeing him at the Soma Gathering

 

Difficulty in interpretation and understanding slows down again when we

find that Rahu was an actual person..........Rahu was said to be the

son of Danava Vipracittti by his wife Simhika and a brother to Maya

Danava the great Magician

 

We also know that Lord Rahu was supposed to be a great Demon God

however when he prayed to Lord Siva he was granted a boon by Lord Siva

and his temple now stands in Southern India Tamil Nadu.........He also

prayed to Lord Vishnu and was granted boon as SayaGraham who has the

Power to basicly destroy the Light from the Sun or Moon at time of

eclipse............So there seems to be a relationship between Lord

Rahu and Lord Siva and Lord Vishnu that many times is not

explained..........Lord Rahu prayed to Almighty God for the ability to

become powerful enough to help people who were afflicted by sun and

moon by being able to cancel their light........sun and moon are always

afraid of Lord Rahu as he is always standing guard for those who have

difficulties with sun and moon

 

Sun and Moon in Vedic Astrology are totally afraid of RAHU.........RAHU

is basicly invisible and really cannot be tracked as it is not exactly

in this dimension of reality we live in although it has influence in

this reality........is called a shadow planet however is not a physical

planet...........is a place in time and space that cannot really be

found and seen however is always there to eclipse the sun and moon at

any time

 

In addition to all this the Lord Ganesha Eight Mukhi Rudraksha Bead has

Lord Rahu as the ruleing planet so it looks like there is a good

relationship with that Lord Rahu also with Lord Ganesha according to

the Holy Books..............LORD RAHU is always there waiting to catch

Sun and Moon and destroy their Light so poeple that have difficulties

with sun and moon can actually go to Lord Rahu in Puja and Prayer and

to his Temple in Tamil Nadu as he is always keeping pressure on sun and

moon due to their deciet of exposeing him at the time of the churning

of the Ocean of Milk and the Soma Party

 

Lord Rahu has been depicted in stories as being a negative force

however this is not entirely true as all have negative and positive

sides to their nature.........Devas are like this also .....they have

negative and positive sides to their natures and you find storie of

most all of them fighting with one another at one time or

another.......... if your birth chart is in House of Lord Rahu and you

are in Rahu or Rahu MahaDasa there is much good that can be done due to

the Accomplishments of Lord Rahu that have made him SayaGraham over Sun

and Moon and with Sivasthala Temple in Tamil Nadu

 

Now with all this said since the older stories jump around so much the

question is how did the man Rahu Danava son of Danava Vipricitti and

born of wife Simhika and brother to Maya Danava become the Great Dragon

King of Nagas who has such a close relationship with Lord Siva and Lord

Visnu and Lord Ganesha and at same time is the one most feared by sun

and moon
