Guest guest
The Valampuri Conch ( a real one ) is not a forbidden item in India. The total 55 species which are forbidden conch species are all decorative species. In Tamil Nadu, the Valampuri Conch is regularly sold in shops. However, being a rare item a waiting list is also maintained by these shops. Rich people book their conch in advance. Rich people also offer Valampuri Conch to famous temples openly. TheValampuri Conch is not listed in the concerned act. The information is confirmed from the Tamil Nadu Govt. Last year on 7th October 2004 on the occassion of the 'Golden Jubillee Ceremony' of Shri. Sai Baba Idol, a beautiful Valampuri Conc was offered to Shri. Sai Baba Temple in the Shirdi by a Chennai based Advocate Mr.C.T. Thyagarajan for the purpose of 'Laghu Rudrabhishek'. There was a big news in local news paper regarding this. Guest guest
Dear Aadi, Sriman Chandrashekhar is correct. Selling Shalagram and Lakshmi conch are forbidden in that they should not be considered from a LIMITED MATERIAL value. While Shalagram should not be made a business of, still some good people make them available by donation. And Valampuri, being Lakshmi and on level of Vishnu, is the same... BUT, unlike Shalagram there is no shastric quote against sale of Valampuri. On the contrary, these things must be made available, otherwise how will they be aquired. Sri Chandrashekhar has an extremely beautiful and Lakshmi Shank that is full size. The price, although a fair bit of money, is still a bargin compared to other things. Plus Chandrashekharji also has a blowing Valampuri. I'm looking forward to seeing a photo he will send us as I've never seen one before. There are bad people in every business, but only the good people are able to distribute sacred objects like Valampuri and Shalagram with out regret. In fact, the good people render a great service by providing such Sacred Objects.
