Guest guest
Something that I wish I can follow.............. MY TEN MANTRAS OF SUCCESS As a child most of us consider schools as necessary evils which just can't be avoided. Our innocent minds can't seem to grasp that this is the foundation on which our future rests. But we have our parents to guide us at that stage of life. They try to make us understand the importance of education, how it is going to help us in building a better life for ourselves in the future. In school we have our teachers to guide us; the same support system continues to be present even during our higher education and one fine day we land up with a job. This is what we had been working towards all our lives. But at this point we all become grown up individuals who are mature enough to take his or her own decisions. The way we carry our lives from this point is crucial for our future professional growth. Career is not needed merely for survival; one can achieve a lot beyond that. You have one life and you want to make the most of it? Don't you? Name, fame and money is what any normal individual yearns for. With proper planning and management it is not an impossible task. But how to go about it? Here are some tips to help you manage your career in the best possible manner: Be realistic : You know your worth more than any other person. Are you perfect? No. Nobody is, then how can life be perfect? As such, achieving everything is next to impossible. You have to find out what your priorities are, a decision has to be made by you about what you really want to have and what you can let go of. Say in the initial years of your career, you have limited earnings. You plan to buy your own house, isn't it practical to think of buying an apartment rather than a penthouse? Be self-reliant : Your life is in your own hands and so is your career. Gone are the days of government jobs, the new set-up demands a change in your thought process. The economy is fast paced and one has to live up to it. Security is extinct in the job sphere. Your boss can also be fired if he is not performing as per the organisation's expectations. So you can't rely on him for job security. You have to take charge of your career yourself, plan it in such a way that there is a constant growth going. Also, you better have an action plan in hand taking note of a some what if" (you are sacked next Friday) situation. Be dynamic : The world is moving at a fast pace, if you don't do the same, you'll be left behind. Catching up with it won't be an easy task. You could end up in a painful, dead-end job, trapped in the boundaries of an unhappy lifestyle. So, don't be indifferent towards your career. Take active interest in it; find out how you can sharpen up your abilities to enhance your performance. You'll be surprised to see that the change in your attitude makes the same job look so much better. Select your path carefully : Career is not a short-term objective and as such decisions related to it should be taken after thorough consideration. Say you are a computer engineer and have been working as a programmer for a year now but are not very happy about your job. Out of the blue, you are offered the position of marketing manager from a company which is into IT related goods, you are tempted to take it as it sounds very interesting as compared to your boring office job. But are you sure the temptation will continue for years to come? Ask yourself. If you are very positive, then go for this job, else stay where you are. This time you have got such an opportunity, future may not be the same. Coming back to the present job in case you want to won't be easy, nearly an impossible prospect. So decisions should be made only if you firmly believe in them. Upgrade your skills : Learning should be a never-ending process. Say you are a fresh medicine graduate, you know about all the drugs and other medical processes that are present today. But after ten years all this will, change new inventions will be made, if you keep yourself abreast with new developments, it is good or else you will become obsolete. So, try to learn new things related to your field. It will help you to be in demand always. Believe in mutual co-existence : You may be a very talented professional but a very bad colleague. In most of the jobs, especially IT related - a team works together for a project. You have to participate in the team, being aloof won't help at all. Team spirit can charge you up and make you perform better, also there is a lot of interaction going on which makes you learn new things and share your knowledge with others. It's better to be a people person with average skills than to be an expert who wins at the expense of others. Take each day as a challenge : Never feel satisfied with your performances or achievements. It can make you stagnate and slowly obsolete. Compete with yourself, today you might have performed till this level but couldn't it be better? There is always room for improvement. Let your mind wander, think, what to do next. One goal should lead to the next one, it is something which will make your life interesting and constantly you will be moving towards betterment. Right Networking : Networking is the key to success more than anything else. You never know who can help you bag your next job - maybe your past boss who has been on a move just like you. Maintain contacts, make new ones and keep carrying the old ones. Leaving your present office doesn't mean leaving everything else that comes with it; you can carry your contacts with you. It really helps, believe me. Staying in touch is not that tough; you can send a group message to all of them once every few days or maybe wish each person on his or her birthday. Maintaining the correct balance : There is no end to desires; you have to decide till where you would want to go? Is professional success all you want or do you need a peaceful mind, some time for yourself and your family also? Going high is good but it should not come at the cost of everything else that matters to you. You have to decide all this, ambition differs with each individual. Keep composure : Your office is not your home so please don't feel free to blabber all your hearts content, it might not be a very good idea. Keep a check on your emotions. You might come across as a very weak person if you show that you are emotionally affected at any go. Try to portray yourself as a strong person who is in control of himself. Follow the correct mantras and nobody can stop you from growing or rather shooting high. May your career be an example of success defined.
