Guest guest Posted March 2, 2006 Report Share Posted March 2, 2006 No, it is just a fake, SSB used to swallow and regurgitate them before but now he is too old and diseased to perform the magic trick, so he hides them in the handkerchief or towel or other place and pretends to do it. The BBC also revealed this a few years ago in their excellent expose documentary. Recently saw a street performer (india) swallow a poisonous snake with fangs letting it rest in his stomach for a min and taking it out without getting bitten and the snake still alive. They even x-ray him doing this perfomance and you can still see the snake moving in his stomach. Source: Discovery Channel. Have also seen David Copperfield fly carrying a spectator in Singapore. To my knowlegde noone in this world can create but only perform. i'm not against anyone's believe but this is the truth. Just to give a balance to the conversation. Another answer: Please read Paramahansa Yogananda's "Autobiography of a Yogi" to understand what a "miracle" truly means. This classic puts in simple terms the framework of a miracle. Examples of miracles: breathing, day follows night and night follows day, food eaten and digested, love, the transforming power of love. What ArjunJi said is very correct: That which exists cannot go out of existence and that which does not exist cannot come into existence. (Reference: /message/2519) Yet, yogis may sometimes do astonishing acts of levitation or manifestation (of objects), or manifest themselves in another place same time simultaneously. The book I mentioned above and ArjunJi's statements are compatible and reveal the nature of miracles better. Once you read that, you will realize that such acts are meant to create the awe in the onlookers and the potentiality of spirituality (usually considered as dry and boring by the majority of the people). Such acts may or may not appeal to all, especially sadhaks who are well on the path will probably look at it suspiciously. Partly because their hearts will not open to the experience, and partly because it threatens their long-established views on spirituality, and mostly because these are not relevant for them as they have established their own "unique space" with God and these additional inputs distract their sadhana. What I would say in summary is this: 1. No one person/path appeals to everybody 2. A person/path that appeals to somebody at one point in time may not appeal to him at another point in time, and vice-versa. 3. A person/path that appeals to somebody may remain with him for the rest of his earthly life (lucky guy!) 4. There are no solid rules as to who is genuine or who is false. 5. The only rule is that truth is what you INTUITIVELY feel about it. Follow your heart if it makes sense to you; bypass it if it does not. And do not criticize one way or the other. Jai Ma! This post is dedicated to enhancing the quality of critical evaluation of sensory and metaphysical data that comes our way, so that our we can evaluate life in a balanced and effective way to lead rich, contented and peaceful lives.
