OM Namah Shivaya Aravind-ji, If we take the above to be true, don't you think God is very biased. If I praise him or remember him, I will be benefited otherwise I am on my own. Such a God he very human - he is not divine. He is almost like a King who likes to be praised by his courtiers and general public. My personal opinion is God neither hates anybody nor loves anybody. God is totally attributeless. The vast variety of behavior, events, goodness or badness or evil that we see in the world can only be explained by the law of Karma - whatever you sow you reap. Due to this law of Karma, different people behave differently in the presence of same consciousness. The same consciousness lights up the mind and 5 material senses in everybody just as sunlight falls on filthy water as well as clean water. Then the question arises - what is the importance of prayer. In my opinion, the effectivenss of prayer is proportional to how much of your ego has been subdued or sublated. No doubt, chanting the name of the Lord purifies and elevates thoughts but it is not because God was pleased to hear his name but because it helps realize the infinitude of the infinity. Words fail now - it is hard to explain how prayer works but a Vedantin will say that more than prayer meditation works because you try to see your own Atman in your own self. It is the same atman in everyone. Just some thoughts. Om Namah Shivaya
